Big changes coming in the Weight Watchers Plan

Nothing official yet, but a good internet friend of mine who I have been conversing with for over a year now who lost 105 pounds on weight watchers notified me that the plan is changing- bigtime.

Not sure how it's going to work, but apparently instead of having a daily points range, you will have a daily points number and then flex points to use during the week. It seems like they are taking the total number of weekly points and reallocating them somehow, but giving everyone a set number to hit every day, and then flex points to be used as needed.

Again, nothing is set yet, and you won't hear it from a leaders lips until headquarters releases it. (apparently they sign confidentiality agreements)

I'm a little nervous about it. I kind of believe your caloric intake should vary from day to day in order to keep your metabolism going, but I don't know enough about the new plan to make any determinations yet.

Just though I'd let the Weight Watcher Wishers know!

Completely unofficial and through the grapevine, so YMMV:

What I'm hearing is that you'll have a points "target" for each day, then you'll have "flex points" to use during the week, when ever you like.

So, if your current points range is 22-27, you might have a daily points target of 22 points and 35 weekly flex points to use whenever. It sounds like the total points for a week will be about the same. You could still vary your daily caloric intake. (I feel the same way you do about that, Annie. I seem to do better when I vary my points and my foods from day to day.)

It sounds like the tracking/journaling philosophy will be a little different. You'll start the day with your total daily points and subtract from them as you go. When you get to 0, you're either done for the day or you'll borrow bonus points.

It really sounds like the changes are more marketing driven than real plan philosophy or content changes. At least, that's what I'm hoping! And it sounds like we heard the same things.

I don't like that idea AT ALL! I've tried that because it was suggested once, but the closer I got to zero, the more stressed I would get and the more I would want to eat!

I have discovered on ething with ww........while I love the points plan, they change things every year!! Nothing really changes much but they seem to change things just enough to make people THANK that it is a new program and new stuff is needed. I do think the fiber cap was a great idea but all the old books and calculator were still effective and you lost. It does not seem much different than the banking thing from what everyone is saying.

Annie, if you want to keep doing it the old way, I promise I won't tell on you!

Thanks KathyTx!!! I don't want the Weight Watchers Police to come and lock me up!

It just sounds like a way to reallocate the points.

It won't really matter to me because I am doing WW on my own with all of my old materials. I am just doing the same thing with the old point ranges, etc. that I was successful with before. If it works then I am not going to change!

If it ain't broke - dont' fix it!

i'm not changing anything - sounds like a gimmick to draw in new business "NEW .......... IMPROVED................" a way to draw in those looking for a quick fix? whatever. i've seen too many people succeed here on the WISH board using old programs - no changing/stressing here!

Thank goodness my coffee cup is empty right now! My monitor surely would have been splattered when I saw that smiley face placed in the right spot on that dude! ha ha!

Well lucky me, since I am too stingy to join WW (ha ha!) I will just have to continue to use my ancient book (written in WW hieroglyphics (sp)?) to create my daily menus! ha ha! Although I am going to figure out how to get the lemonade cake and philly cheese steak worked into my plan now! Thanks, ohMom and Holly for posting those! MMMM! :)

Another one on the 'old' plan! I am personally steering my plan to the lower carb side (notice I said lowER Hahahaha) but I can't give up my Cheerios! ;)

AnnieT, those smilies are great!! Can I borrow the dude for a while? He could be my new avatar! :smooth:

Just had to pop in to say I have finally figured out that nativetxn and KathyTX are two separate people! I'm terrible with regular names - so these signatures are so hard for me to keep straight!

You two were like Michael Jackson and his sister Janet - people thought they were the same person for a while, unitl they showed up on stage together! LOL!!!

Hmm! with this notice maybe I should pay more attention when I log into my WW site and see what they have to say. Then again it seems like at this point I have memorized the points I usually use and have stopped counting my points (shhh don't tell) and use the $14 a month I shuck out as the motivation to stay on track. I am sure that is not what WW wanted me to do:D
I do agree that it really sounds a lot like the current plan that is being suggested since you can now bank points and then use them when you want for the week and if you go over for a day they (on-line) automatically take them away from you.

This change really concerns me. One of my biggest concerns about the original Points program was that it took too much emphasis off of getting a good macro-nutrient break-down: You could very easily construct a protein-deficient diet on WW Points program, while the old Exchanges program required you to have at least a minimal amount of protein each day. This sounds like it is pushing things even further in that direction.

I don't know about other areas, Brian, but at our WW meetings, our leader reiterates the importance of getting enough protein and milk points quite frequently. Yesterday as a matter of fact, she told us that it is important that we get at least 4-6 milk points and 6-8 protein points per day.

She has a basket that you can put your last week's journal in so that she can analyze what you are eating and make suggestions (i.e. if you are using too many "empty points")

Hmmm.. those seem like good questions to ask as polls.
