So, I had my eye exam today and now I need bifocals. I knew this was coming, so it wasn't a surprise. I decided to give bifocal contact lenses a try. At first, I felt great. By the time I got home, I had a headache. I never get headaches. I'm pretty certain now that the reading prescription needs to be increased. Maybe that's the cause of the headache. Maybe it's an adjustment period.:confused3 I have a follow-up appointment next week, but if the headache continues, I'm calling the doctor tomorrow.

Anyone have experience with bifocal contacts? I love not having to take my glasses with me everywhere. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I will follow this thread. As much as I want to believe I am not old enough to need reading glasses, my vision tells me otherwise.

Not everyone can adjust to bifocal contacts. I am one of those. I unfortunately now wear glasses.

My eyes feel so tired right now and they hurt. :guilty: I called the doctor's office and was told that this can happen for about 2 days. If I can't get used to them, then I'll be getting two separate prescriptions.

I really hope that I can get past the adjustment period. I really want it to work. We'll see.

I wear a bifocal contact in my right eye only. The reason being that my right eye is the only one that can be corrected by any means...contact or glasses. My left eye is basically useless and has about 20/200 vision or some such horrible number. My right eye corrects to 20/20 with the contact. It is a conventional lens but my contact technician tells me only about 2% of the contact wearers are still wearing that type of contact. She wants me to switch to the disposable type the next time I need to get a new contact. I tried them several years ago and didn't like them as they were paper thin. She said that's when they first came out and that they have improved a lot. I have no problems seeing with the bifocal contact lens....in fact, I love it as I hate the feeling of glasses on the bridge of my nose. I don't remember if I needed an adjustment period but I don't think so. Good luck to you!

My DS13 wears bifocal contacts...so many people have told me he is too young, but according to the doc this is what he needs. He has never worn contacts before, but seems to do fine with them and he sees much better than he did, according to him. He had a few day adjustment period with them but he is fine with them now.

I'm still skeptical though....

Good luck, I know it is convenient not to have to have your glasses!

If the bifocal contacts don't work, you might try going monovision. That's where one eye is corrected for reading focal lengths and the other for distance. Then your brain adjusts accordingly. Not everyone can go this route but I've used monovision for 10+ years and so far so good.

I had them for awhile. I have worn bifocals for about 15 years. (well, I DID wear bifocals until I had Lasik done ).
I didn't like them. I couldn't see well close up or far away. I finally gave up.

My DH wears Bausch & Lomb PureVision Multi-Focal lenses and he loves them. He has bifocal glasses as well and says that he can see much better with the contacts. I don't remember him having a tough time adjusting to them.

Thanks!:goodvibes

I had to remove them. I couldn't take the headache any longer. It's probably not a good idea to have done so, but I had to do it. I emailed my brother about this and he says that when he switches from contacts to glasses, he does get headaches. I guess it makes sense for the reverse to happen to me.

I really want this to work. :guilty:

I wear bi-focal contact lenses. I had been a mono-vision for years, only one contact in my right eye and nothing in left, but I now need bifocals. The first one I tried were terrible. They were made kind of like a bulls eye, and I couldn't see close or far. In June went back and they now have a new design for bi-focals and they work great. They are like glasses with the reading part in the bottom half of contact. The lenses are slightly weighted so the reading part stays on the bottom part of your eye. They do work much better, it take a little while to adjust, but I can see distance and can read in them. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Give your eyes two or three days to adgust. If your eyes don't adgust then you will not be able to wear them anymore.

For those following this thread, here is an update: I was reluctant to put in my contacts this morning, but knew I had to do it. The great news is that there is no headache today!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I think this is going to work! :yay:

I think there was another thread about contact lenses floating around the other day, but it may have been about gas permeables.

I wear gas perm. bi-focal lenses and I love them! My vision is the pits when I first take them out though. And if I use my regular glasses (not bi-focal) I have to take the glasses off to read. I've worn regular hard or gas perms for almost 40 years, and bi-focal ones for the past 4-5 years. It's the best possible vision for me.

Glad the headache didn't appear today. Good luck!
