We had lunch at the Biergarten yesterday-our third time back here to dine since we've been coming to the Swan each February. The meal fare was delicious..some of my favorites were the red cabbage salad, the warm potato salad, and the sausage with various mustards and apricot chutney for dipping. The fresh berry compote with vanilla sauce for dessert was out of this world. The other desserts I sampled were not great. The apple streudel was made with canned, sugary apples, and the black forest cake was way too sweet. Perhaps I have just been spoiled b/c my DH's mother is Austrian and I know real German desserts...not laden with sugar. Also, we were disappointed by the pretzels at Germany. The pretzel bread at the buffet was true to a real German pretzel, fresh and chewy, but the pretzels at the stand were American movie-style (processed dough). Oh well, otherwise we loved the buffet!
For dinner, after miles of walking in Epcot all day, we just wanted to return to the hotel and hit Picabus. DH has the chimicanga (beef), which was HUGE and came with fresh salsa, sour cream, and a type of brown sauce (mole?) I took a few bites, very fresh, and not heavy. I had a plain cheese pizza. It was not anything special, just cheese pizza, but after tons of walking, plus having gone for a run in the morning, I was craving pizza and it hit the spot.
We are consistently pleased with Picabus b/c we save money with our AAA card and it is a nice balance to the amount we spend at many sit-down restaurants that we like to visit. I recommend Picabus..plus the strongest and best coffee around- Starbucks!
