I see that the Boardwalk Resort rents bicycles. Anyone do that? Where did you ride?

Nope, that’s where you have to go. You have a bell to ring to let people know you’re coming. ;)

So you could essentially ride over to Cape May for a breakfast...nice.

You could, but it would be pricey. It's $25 for a half hour on the 2 seater (well 3 seater plus the basket). We just rented one the other night. Super hard to for us to make it up that hill, we had to get out and push it LOL

Is that a bicycle?

They also don't have good places for you to leave the bike should you want to stop. They are really intended to be just a single round trip sort of rental.

I'd love for the larger Disney resorts to become places you could use a bike to get around. That would be ideal at CS and CBR. They are really too large for my liking with having only walking or bus transportation, but adding the possibility of bikes as transportation would really make me want to stay at those places. The only place I know you can really do that now is the Fort.

We have folding bikes that we want to bring with us. I didn't know what the policy is about that but if you can rent 2 wheeled bicycles at the Resort, I figure it would be OK

You haven't lived until you've seen 4 unsuspecting "victims" try to pedal a surrey bicycle up the hills around Boardwalk. :D

So much this. DH and I will sometimes walk a couple laps around the lake there, and I love the kids/grand-kids that convince their parents/grandparents to rent the bikes, then on the next lap it is always those poor adults huffing it trying to make it up the hill while the kids tell them to 'just pedal harder'! One of my favorite forms of Boardwalk entertainment ever!!!!

You cannot ride on the roads of WDW. Only at the resorts. Your problem will be finding a place to lock up your bikes if you ride over to another resort at the BW area.

Sorry to steal your thread OP, but my mother is interested in renting a regular 2 wheeled bicycle at BWV. Is there a loop she'd be allowed to bike on? I see the path from BWV towards DHS can also lead back towards Swolphin (go over the bridge instead of under it). Would she be allowed to ride on that?

You're not stealing the thread at all, I am interested in this as well. I would think you would be able to bike to and from DHS, Swan and Dolphin, Yacht and Breach Club, International Gateway and of course around the Boardwalk itself. A far as bike friendly resorts, I think the boardwalk ranks right up there. I wonder if you can lock up your bikes and go into either EPCOT of DHS. We just visited Wilderness Lodge and it is bike friendly too. We biked to the Campgrounds as well as around the resort.

Where would you lock up bikes at DHS and the International Gateway? There aren't any bike racks there.

Everything below was posted on 2009 thread, so I don't know if the information was/is still accurate:

1) Bicycles are allowed on WDW highways/streets.
. . . WDW streets are permitted
. . . WDW resort roadways are permitted
. . . WDW resort sidewalks are not permitted
. . . DTD sidewalks are not permitted
. . . FW has roads and bike paths for riding, plus bike parking areas
2) However, no bike parking near the theme park entrance.
3) You can park a bike in the park's car lots, near the motorcycles.
4) There is a cage/stand for bicycle parking and locking.
5) But, no parking near the International Gateway entrance to Epcot.

NOTE1: Most who use their own bikes at WDW keep them in their resort room, as there is no resort parking area for bicycles. This avoids theft, but also makes for a crowded room.

NOTE2: There are many CM's that ride their bikes to work. Of course, they have a different parking area than the general public. They usually park their bicycles in the same area in which we park our motorcycles (depending upon the building, park, resort, etc).

Have you looked at a map of the Boardwalk area? It’s bike friendly as in go for a leisurely ride around the Boardwalk or to HS and back not parking. It’s not bike friendly in park somewhere, do a bunch of things and then leave.

I have also never been to fort wilderness, but have seen videos and have been to other campgrounds where I understand how biking is helpful. I don’t think the Boardwalk is the same big area that fort wilderness is. I feel that the bikes they rent there are more for a fun acitivity for 30-60 minutes vs. a mode of transportation from place to place.

We enjoy it for an hour, around the Boardwalk and down by the Swan and Dolphin. Such a nice ride, early in the morning before Boardwalk gets crowded or too hot!
ENJOY!:cheer2:

Hunh, the bike rules are interesting! That's one thing I do wish Disney allowed more of; biking between places and also walking between places. Probably restricted for traffic sake and liability?
