I know it's not 'legal' to transfer bibs, but has anyone registered and not been able to run or decided to run a different race? DH was planning to run a local marathon in a month, but has just found out he has a stress fracture in his foot, so that race is out. He's registered for the half, but is considering registering for the full and wouldn't want his half entry to go to waste.

Please, no flames, but what's everyone think? Unofficial bib transfers are commonplace in other races.

I have seen them on ebay. You cannot change the name on the bib, but I think you can just fold it under. Your DH would have to go pick up the race info and give it to the new runner or give the new runner a photo copy of his ID and the signed waiver. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

A friend couldn't make it to the Disneyland Half.

I got his spare ID, his waiver, and his notarized letter saying it was okay for me to pick up his registration packet. The race relations people said okay, so I took everything to the booth, and got everything.

I ended up wearing both of our chips on opposite feet. Then just before the finish, I took his chip off, and stuck it in my pocket, so we didn't cross the finish line at the same time. I then switched our race bib numbers.

I then walked back to mile 12, to wait for friends behind me. I jumped back in the race and did the last mile with them. My friend ended up with a time, a shirt, and a medal.

He owes me big time! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

HI Becky :wave2:

Silly question, but if the chip was in your pocket, wouldn't it be read when you first crossed the finish. I don't think it would really matter or that Disney would care you wore 2 (they got the money for both after all). Just curious...

I think I can answer this one. The mat will only pick up the chip from a certain distance above it. Like your foot/ankle area. If the chip is any higher, the mat won't pick it up. Was at a race awhile back wear they hand out chip that day and they have an ankle strap and they told you to put them there. A few people and kids put them on their wrists or arms and their chips never got "read" by the mats.
