BGE bill

We live in Carroll County in a 2200 sq ft and our BGE bill was $258 last month.
--I don't use the oven very much, especially, on hot, humid days. I love my electric pressure cooker!
--We've raised the thermostat to 76 on most days and it's been tolerable.
-- We put in an attic fan which has made a huge impact because upstairs is quite comfortable now. Before that, we would have to lower the temp on the A/C to cool upstairs.
--I keep curtains closed in the daytime for the windows with southern exposure.
--I keep toaster, coffee pot ,etc. unplugged when not in use
--we try to get the dishwasher when it's done and not let it go through the dry cycle for 30 minutes
--we've switched to fluorescent bulbs when our old lightbulbs die
--we've changed the settings on the water heater
--we only wash in cold water
--we take a lot of our stuff out of the dryer when it's damp and hang it up to finish drying
--ceiling fans in some rooms to circulate the air

I can't imagine having over $500 bill. Yikes :scared1: Try calling BGE and ask if they'll come out and do an energy audit.

As for Catonsville, I used to work there - that does count? I used to work at St. Agnes.

My DD was born there, and went to the daycare LaPetite that is in their parking lot until a couple of months ago- she is starting school in the fall.

I worked in Labor and Delivery. I left about 2 1/2 yrs ago and I miss it.

Really - St Agnes! My MIL works for St Agnes - she is the President of the Foundation office. I have a cousin that works there too!

I delivered both my children there as well, my daugher in Sept 04, my son in Sept 06! I was actually born there too!!!

I delivered my first daughter there. She was 7 weeks early and spent 10 days in the NICU. I loved all the nurses in L/D and in the NICU my doctor not so good. So I switched practices and delivered my other 3 at Howard County. Is your daughter starting preschool in the fall? Did you guys all go to Catonsville Highschool?

My daugther goes to a daycare center full-time which incorporates preschool - I went to Chesapeake High School in Pasadena, didn't move here until I met my husband, I love Catonsville though!

My cousins daughter goes to that LaPetite! She's 3 and her name is Alyssa!

It's a small world after all!! My DD just graduated Pre-K from there in June- she had been there since she was 2. She loved it, and we liked all of her teachers.

We live in Catonsville too. We live in Oakforest now. We used to live in a townhouse oh boy the bill was so much better. We live in a three story house now. Last month it was 350. Is it possible to jump up like that?

In addition to the energy saving advice, I would suggest calling the energy company and find out what your kwh rate is. Call some other companies, as well, and check rates. Last year, our bill took a huge jump from one month to the next and DH called and found out that the promo rate we signed on at with Reliant had expired. He was able to lock in another lower rate for a year. After that shock, he noted the date of expiration on the rate and called this summer before it expired and locked in a lower 2 year rate.

Around here the energy companies are very competitive for customers but when a promo rate expires they will automatically raise to a high rate without warning.
