Beyond disappointed in the Admin dept at DVC, no member number

So yesterday I called to see if my contract had been entered and the Mbr Service rep didn't see it so she sent me to admin, who also didn't see it but encouraged me to call back today. So today I called and the gentleman I spoke with said he saw the contract but couldn't give me the member # over the phone and I would have to wait for the letter. I advised that I knew many DVC members who were able to call for their number, he got very snippy with me. Basically, IMHO,they have NO respect for people who use this board for info on how to use their resale DVC and I was told even by his supervisor that I would have to wait for my letter before calling back & the insinuation was that anyone who says they called and got their number was telling a "mistruth".

This leaves a HORRIBLE impression on me about being a DVC member and I am beginning to regret my decision. Basically I was told that if I had bought through them this wouldn't be an issue.....feels great to been seen as a "second class citizen" sine I bought resale.....no bueno DVC :(

I've had good experiences with Member Services. It's all about expectations and who you talk to.

WHAT the WHAT??? That isn't going to work..I'm calling for my number too. But I will say they have asked me each time if I bought direct or resale. hmmm

Call Member Accounting, option #3 on the phone menu. Nobody else will give you your member number over the phone. That is well documented here.

The problem is that the policy is for resale buyers to wait and you will be mailed your info. CM's give in and bend the rules, it gets published here and anyone reading expects for the rules to be bent for them.

Is it nice for DVC to make resale buyers wait so long, no it isn't, but DVD/DVC has made it clear that they do not appreciate people buying resale.

DVC administration is funded through our dues and adding additional CM's would cost all of the owners not just the new resale buyers.

This is the Dvc policy and has been for some time. Although some people do report a CM bending the rules and giving out member numbers the policy is wait and get it in the mail so many even on here report calling and not getting it.

The happy truth though is once you get your number and are set up you have your membership from now on forwards and you will be the same class of Dvc member as everyone else.

Gatorgirl72 - Don't let that bother you. Call back and use option #3 as a pp stated. I had to speak with several CMs over a few days to get my number. Some nice some not so nice. Just remember you saved over buying direct. Everyone from MS has been great since getting my number. You will speak to them more than any other department. Good luck getting your number.

I agree with the previous posters. Only Member Accounting was wiling to try to help me, even though I told them that we were in Canada and waiting for the number in the mail would take weeks and we would lose our booking window. FWIW it took almost five weeks after getting our number to get that package!

In fairness to DVC, some other systems make people wait far longer. When I bought Wyndham resale, I closed in July and did not have access to my account until DECEMBER -- and then only because I became a very "squeaky wheel." I was near panic because I had a BUNCH of points that I wanted to credit pool by Dec 31 and couldn't access my account to do so.

I also think that, at times like this, you have to take a deep breath and look at the long-term picture, as minniesgal alluded to above. Once you get the number, you have many years to enjoy your membership.

I will echo what others have stated, select option 3 when you call. Having just gone thru this a few weeks ago, the folks in member accounting (option 3) were very helpful and did give me my member number via phone.

Good luck!

As noted, this has been the policy for a while. It's only been fairly recently that anyone was able to get thier number at all. My guess is that they're getting back to the actual policy. Whether one will be successfull on another call is an unknown. It's part of the price of saving the money. To a degree, those that buy restricted points are second class citizens in some ways. They don't have all the options and if DVC ever institutes a VIP program or makes other negative changes related to qualified points, they will be affected negatively as well or simply will be left out. The core usage will be the same and that should be the reason for buying.

Disney - and DVC - do a really poor job of uniformly enforcing policies they have in place - unless they are system enforced (like the seven month window) or really taken seriously (like carding at SAB). There are a lot of policies. You get used to "someone else got extra towels and toiletries and didn't get charged, but it showed up on my bill" or "my friend was able to invite guests to the pool, but my guests got carded and asked to leave."

Its best to look at getting something you shouldn't have got as a bonus, rather than looking at it as an entitlement other people got that you didn't.

And its disappointing to run into it with your member number - its your first big DVC thing.

Thank you all SO much for your replies :) I understand about policies and all of the timeframe that goes into the resale sales, my main concern was truly how rude the people were. I have been a Disney fanatic for many years and have never encountered such a lack of professionalism and lack of respect for gusts of any kind. I will call back and press option 3 and although it may be "well documented" on this boards, sifting through all the posts to see what the majority does can be a tedious task at best. I am still, even after calming down, left with a bad taste for DVC, and hope they can show me over the course of ownership that my investment in them was a good thing. Now to keep my fingers crossed that the resort I want to book is open for us, since the process took 2 months longer than was quoted by our broker!

DVC is less perfect than Disney and they do things that makes no sense and I fear that you will be disappointed. I know that being a DVC owner has caused us to lose some of the Disney magic and allowed us to see behind the curtain. It might be that we now vacation at Disney much more often and for a longer stay which increases our exposure to possible issues.

i believe disney is trying to sabotage the resale market...and doing a pretty good job with rofr delays, estoppel delays, loading points delays, etc. i expect the time from effective date of purchase and using the points is right at four months now.

I had a pretty tight timeline for my first reservations (made a week before I arrived). I completely expected not to get the member number in the mail in time, and at the time there was NO member numbers given out from the DVC member hotline. To my surprise (especially as a resale buyer), my assigned DVC salesman called me to welcome me. He offered to book my first stay (which I did for my vacation the next week). On the off chance he'd help, I asked him for my number, and he gave it to me without question. I called Member accounting for the other needed information for online account set-up, and had my user sign-on set up within minutes.

Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you are a slave to the system.

I completely understand how you are feeling. It's difficult when you are so excited and anxious, then the attitude of one person can ruin it all. After you get your member number and book your first vacation with the points, your feeling of euphoria will come back. I promise. Every CM that I have spoken to has been so wonderful. I used option 3 every time I called to try to get my member number and I didn't offer up the info about purchasing resale. I simply said "good morning/afternoon (insert their name) I am hoping that you can help me, I need to get my member number".

This may be here nor there but in all of my years working for the Fire Department starting as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, I've learned that people respond in a more personable way when you use their name. So when anyone, from any department, company, etc. gives their name on a phone call, I always use it! I usually have a pen and paper ready so I can write it down immediately and I talk to them like I would a friend... "Thank you joe... I really appreciate your help joe.." You get my drift. So there's my useless two cents for the day. :flower1:

Good luck, sending Pixie dust your way!

I think one has to give them some leeway on this issue. It's basically like buying a car from the next town over and having it service at your local dealership. You literally took money out out of their pocket by buying resale. IMO the savings are worth any initial hassle. Remember that it's still a timeshare at the end of the day with the inherent good and bad that brings. At the end of the day DVD doesn't want you to be able to buy or sell aftermarket, they just want you to think you can.
