beware TGM'ers-

I signed up for TGM many months ago and wasn't too thrilled with it- not really anything I didn't already know- I didn't ask for my fees back because a) I've invested more $ on a bad guide book and b) I was hoping there'd be more/better info closer to my trip. Anyway...I was poking around on the discussion boards over there and (this doesn't violate any TGM aggreement!) I was miffed by a few threads where they poke fun at the "Dissers". Specifically stating that they lie on the Dis boards or start threads just to put wrong info out there. Seriously, is this necessary? These are the usual topics such as fastpass expiration and EMH planning- but purposely lying for the fun of it? I think I've had it over there- I just can't seem to accept that whole "us vs them" mentality that thrives there. Rant over-

There have been instances of misinformation being posted on the DIS but not in a while.
It sorta seems like the "us vs them" is being brought over here. If you're not happy,then fine,post that but why

Who really cares on what people say on other boards? You know, sometimes it would get to me when one board would say something rude about another; but regardless how calmly try to address the issue people will just attack you. You just cannot take whatever comments people say there seriously.

I have seen the same on this board about TGM. Have you not seen the Kool Aid references? There are people on any site who are going to be negative about others site people enjoy because they think the site they enjoy is absolutely the best.

It was an INDIVIDUAL not the TGM site as a whole. It's not any different than the individuals here who say nasty things. That isn't representative of the site as a whole.

I have also seen references to the DIS on other boards that are not the most flattering and have heard a comment directly from a CM at Disney. The DIS has quite the reputation.

I hang out sometimes on the TGM planning boards and I've never seen anything negative about DISers - that's not to say that there isn't anything, just that I've never seen it myself. So I guess it's not that rampant, or maybe I haven't been on the sub-forums that it happens on most regularly?

About the "us vs them" mentality - I've only seen it used where "us" = TGMers and "them" = everyone else (not specifically DISers - lots of DISers are TGMers too!). It's the terminology Mike uses as a shorthand to saying "everyone else who doesn't have TGM", or "the rest of the crowd". I can see how it can get a bit "private clubbish" to those who are not on TGM - but most people I've seen on the TGM boards don't act like they hold "them" in contempt, they are mostly trying not to be like "them" so they can stay ahead of the crowd, which is the whole point of TGM! I am not saying that some TGMers aren't contemptuous - they may be - I just haven't seen it. I just don't think it is that widespread, or surely I would have noticed by now? Yes, you'll see a lot of "us vs them" comments, but I've never seen them as mean or contemptuous - they are just in keeping with the TGM philosophy (which is to keep ahead of the crowd, or "them".).

Sorry you came across some comments that were mean-spirited. Those aren't fun anywhere.

I love both TGM and the DIS. I don't think either has a huge ego against each other. I know some people here don't like TGM, but I've never seen negative DIS posts over at TGM.

It wasn't TGM himself saying it. It was somebody on the board. I'm sure TGM is VERY thankful for the DIS as this place has made him a tremendous amount of money with the exposure he gets.

well, actually I believe it's in a reference to a TGM thread that is following a big debate thread here within the last couple days. It wasn't a thread started just to talk about DISers.

And to be clear, having just reread the TGM thread, someone said they (paraphrasing) enjoy making up funny lies at www.disneylies.com - NOT here at DIS. Do people read wrong info and not bother to correct here. Sure. It's not like it's their obligation to do so, anyway. (I hope it's OK to repeat this from the TGM forums...just wanted to respond to the OP who obviously has done the same.)

Maybe there are other threads that the OP here is referring to, but the above one was recent. I'll have to browse around over there and I'll be happy to correct myself if I'm wrong. [eta; OK, I read a second thread basically about the same thing with some poking at DISers, but nothing really horrible. And still didn't see anyone say they lie here.]

Besides, it's far from all of TGMers that poke fun at DISers, and even at that it's only at some of the DISers for some of the things they say (usually debate threads so half of the DISers themselves have something to say about it as well). I don't think it's fair to judge either group as a whole based on individual members.

I love Tour Guide Mike. It really helped us our last trip. I highly recommend it.

As for the forum, when I was there (Feb - June 2005), there wasn't too much posting and I didn't see anything negative about the DIS, that I remember.

I signed up for TGM for our family WDW trip over Thanksgiving. I found it very cumbersome and had much better luck here on the DIS with getting my info. I will stick to my "tried and true".

BTW, TGM is an official sponsor on the DIS.
