Beware of Hotels.com..

I booked a Universal hotel through Hotels.com & it has turned into a mess. This is the first time I have ever used a third party for booking & it will be the last. I used them simply because it is stated in bold that the payment will be taken by the hotel when you check in or check out.(stated on the website & my confirmation) That is false. It was taken the day after I booked & for $50 more than what it was supposed to be. I called Hotels.com last night & they called the hotel, then told me to call the hotel direct today to figure it out. I did call Universal today (btw, they are wonderful to deal with) and I ended up cancelling the reservation & will re-book through them with a AAA rate (which is the same as what it should have been through hotels.com).

I was just really disappointed with the entire thing & just wanted to let anyone know to carefully monitor any transactions with Hotels.com to make sure everything is correct. They made two large, false mistakes with my simple one night reservation.

I'm sorry you had a difficult time with them but happy the hotel that you booked at were able to help you out. I have never used hotels.com but have used others like expedia and had a wonderful experience with them. My sister used them too when we had to go to a wedding out of town at a really nice golf resort.
