Beverages in Stateroom

I just read in the passporter book that unlike many other cruises, there are no restrictions on bringing beverages aboard. We are taking the Disney Cruise Line Ground Transfer to the cruise line terminal from the airport and will not be able to stop to purchase beverages. I was wondering if there is any place within walking distance of the terminal to purchase bottled water and beer/wine.

That depends on what you consider walking distance....

There's not really anything that's closer than a couple of miles away. You'd have to pack whatever drinks you want to bring on board and lug them with you on the plane, something we've only done once, then decided it's not really worth it. I like to carry as little as possible with me on to the plane, and I don't know that I'd trust a bottle of wine to remain intact in my checked baggage. You could probably get some bottled water in the airport concourse, it's kind of a mall, of sorts, but I don't think there's anywhere in there to buy beer or wine which you could bring with you.

What you can do is shop during your first port call, you're in port on the first full day of the cruise on all but the 7-day eastern itinerary (either in Nassau or Key West), and can stock up then.

There are no stores that you can get to by foot from the DCL Terminal at Port Canaveral. Even if you were willing to walk "a couple of miles," it would be like walking on a freeway.

You can bring wine from home in your carry-on baggage (carried onto your flight and onto the ship). We brought two bottle of wine and a travel corkscrew. You should not put liquids (including wine) into any checked luggage.

Another option is to wait until the first port to buy beverages.

The water on the ship is excellent, especially from the drink station on deck 9, where it seems to get additional filtering. But it's useful to bring plastic water containers of some sort. That way, you can keep cold water in your in-room electric cooler, and you can carry the container around, if you wish.

Thanks for the great advice... I never thought about stocking up at the first port. We are on the 7 day Western cruise and can stock up on beverages at Key West.

I really like the idea of the water bottles and just keep filling them up we could bring quite a few of those with us. I guess we'll be making stops at the first port for our wine and beer since we are not allowed to bring alcohol out of Canada from what I have heard. Great question Meshee!

There is an excellent grocer in Key West, just head down Duvall; it's a few blocks down Duvall on a side street, off to the left. It's a full grocery store for the locals too. Shirley at Perfect Gift told us about it.

I'd suggest not throwing out your back carrying too much bottled water on board. There is a drink station on Deck 9 that offers coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade, and perfectly good filtered water. All are complementary. We brought a few bottles, and then just refilled from Deck 9 as needed. I drink a TON of water (more than a gallon a day) and this was no big deal.

Wine is another story. I was perfectly willing to risk a strained back to get a dozen bottles of wine aboard!

You are a wine drinker after my own heart! Did you bring your wine in a carry on or put it on thru with your checked luggage? Guess what I am asking is did you have it in a wine carton or in luggage and did they accept it when you were checking in at the cruise????

My brothers (and sisters-in-law) and I divided it up among our carry-on luggage. We each simply stuck a couple of bottles in our carry-ons.

I'd be nervous about having wine (or any liquid in a large glass bottle) in checked luggage. The guys who load and haul those suitcases can get pretty rough. It'd be a real bummer to open your suitcase and find all your clothes soaked in wine. Although I'm not sure which would be the greater tragedy...the ruined clothes or the wasted wine!

sounds like GREAT advice - especially at Disney prices for wine - yikes!!!!!! since we are joining another single mom and teen son then she and I can do the same thing and save money for those excursions the boys want to take!
