I plan to buy a new game system. We have a Wii but my daughter is eighteen now and the games for Playstation and X-Box look like they might be more fun for older teens.

Which do you recommend? What are your favorite games?

Thanks.

Penny

Really, the only honest answer here is is based on what games the player using the system will enjoy.... except for one thing, and that is that the Sony functions as a Blu - Ray DVD player. If that feature doesn't matter, then you just buy whichever system has the most games that you ( she ) will enjoy playing.

I have both. Both are great.

The cost is relatively the same for each. I know the PS3 can be used as a media center to stream any media off of your computer network. Also ps3 online is free, unlike 360 and the differences are unnoticable for casual users. If their is a certain game you want though, go with that system.

I agree with the others. The games are what matters the most...that and if her friends have either of the systems, they can meet up...

The only other issue are the extensive problems the Xbox has had in the past with the system breaking down. It's a pretty typical microsoft product--full of problems.

I'm not sure how the new "improved" versions are fairing. We have a new generation one and haven't had any issues. My best suggestion to avoid issues is to avoid using the system to play DVDs. I think it wears it out.

The PS3 has no such issues.

We have both - ever since DF got the PS3, he doesn't play the 360 nearly as much. There's a select few games he'll play on it, but given the choice between the two platforms he'll chose the PS3.

I'm more of a Wii girl, but I will play games on the PS3 and love it for the Blu-Ray feature - it's worth its weight in gold!

Our house has all of them - and 360 is used the most.

My oldest son moved, and took his 360 with him - so my youngest son has been having withdrawal symptoms, ever since (sweating, nausea, looking all wild eyed ;) ) So, we got the XBox 360 - Call of Duty bundle at Best Buy this past weekend. $400. Ouch. :headache:

But - I know it will be used, and liked.

Thanks everyone. My problem is, I want to surprise her. Maybe I can ask her boyfriend.

Cathryn Rose, Last year you recommended a great Urban Decay eye shadow kit for her. I got it and she loves it so much that I got the Book of Shadows 2 this year. Any others that look good?

You know what, I haven't looked. I'm trying to contain my terrible shopping issue by not looking.

It didn't help the other day when I went to the mall for XMas Gifts and came home with this:

Annnnnd this....

Neither of which are presents for anyone. Unless you consider myself, an anyone.

So - I decided I was not looking. But since I would be helping someout out - maybe I should look?? Right? I mean, I am helping someone. :rolleyes1

Just in the interest of helping a fellow DISer. :thumbsup2

Back to the game system, would these be good ones?

Sony Special PS3 160GB Bundle with 3 DualShock Controllers + Uncharted: Drake's Fortune + Resistance

or

Microsoft Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition

Thanks again,

Penny

What do her friends have? Do you know?

Part of the fun of these, is linking up and playing with your friends. My son plays with friends in other states, KWIM?

They put the head set on, and can talk to each other while playing. :thumbsup2

My DS LOVES his 360, but a huge part of his feelings are because of the LIVE component.

Thanks, I'll ask around and see what they have.

Love those colors! Thanks again.

I got a PS3 bundle with Rachet and Clank and Little Big Planet from Best Buy. If you can find it, I HIGHLY suggest it for a girl. The games that come with the bundles you mention are war/shooter games that girls usually aren't into. LBP is AWESOME for girls.

You definitely don't need 3 controllers.

As others have mentioned, it really comes down to the gaming style and types of games.

360 is probably the preffered platform for online gaming. While there is fee for Xbox live gaming, the online system is miuch better maintained, and there are a ton more online players on the XBOX. Just compare the online activity for Call of Duty for XBOX vs PS3. The 360 also has some big exclusive series like Halo, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, and some others ... so 360 is the only system you'll current find them on.

The PS3 online is free, but doesn't have as much online activity. Where the PS3 shines is with its' exclusive titles. Games like Little Big Planet, the Uncharted series, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone, Infamous, God of War can only be found on the PS3.

I like both, but personally prefer my PS3. I'm not much of an online gamer, and for my gaming tastes, I've yet to see anything rival games like Uncharted 2 or Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time.

DFiance wants me to speak on behalf of the XBOX claiming it's online platform is better and so are the games, in his opinion.

We have a Wii and an XBOX. Like others have mentioned: I think it just depends on the games you want to play if you're a casual gamer. :)

I got DH the PS3 for Christmas. He mainly plays sports games and the consensus seems that the PS3 is better for those. He also wanted Blu Ray so that worked out well. I also bought Little Big Planet because that seemed like something we both would enjoy playing.

The XBox seemed to have more hard core gaming that we really don't get into. I thought the PS3 fit our needs better.

My 14 year old ds prefers the PS3. It's an added bonus that online games are free and my ds told me there is a built in wireless card.

:flower3: Thanks, it helps to hear what real people (as opposed to a commercial) say.
