Trying out something new next year and hoping to capitalize on the somewhat lower crowds during back-to-school time. If Labor Day is September 5th, is that "magic slow week" beginning on September 6th?

Last year we went the week after labor day ,the following week. Crowds were very very low. Lines were short or nonexistent. Fourth fast passes were readily available. The only thing that was horrible were the buses. There weren't enough running, I think, due to the slow week.

I don't think you can go wrong during any dates in the first half of September. Labor Day is the worst part of that period, but even that isn't bad. I think I've been to either WDW or UO over Labor Day weekend for about 5 years straight and while it's busier than it used to be, LDW is still hard to beat for any other time of year for crowds.
I cannot comment on the week of, say, Sept 12 because we were gone by then, but I can tell you that last year on Labor Day and the days after were low, low crowd levels. I think that in general the weekends have more people, but during the week is fantastic for touring. For example, we walked onto TSMM at 11:00, then my kids went and walked onto RnR. Usually, during moderate crowd level days , by 11:00 I think those rides have at least a 40 minute wait (or longer!) Loved it so much that we're going again in a few days! You cannot go wrong with either week. Just keep in mind that you might be able to go to MNSSHP if you go mid September. Last year, the first party was on Labor Day, but sadly, for us they went back to starting it later in September.
September at Disney is my favorite! Just keep in mind that it is HOT and HUMID and rain is likely - and that seems to be especially true this year with the hurricanes and tropical storms.
