Better to PM or email

Hi, just wondering what is the best route to go. When requesting to rent points or looking for a reservation. Is it better to PM the person or use your own email for discussions?

I think it would depend on the user. Personally I would e-mail first and ask if they would prefer PM's in the future.
If a user is on dis all the time, they would catch the PM, some users may catch their e-mails first, and/or would much rather take the time to answer the e-mail.
