Better rate by calling Alamo vs. internet

I thought this was strange. I've been looking for SUV or minivan rates for New year's and they are out of sight! I called Alamo with the Entertainment code. I was quoted about $30 higher than what I already had. I told him I could do better on the internet. He asked what my rate was and beat it by $50. The rate is still too high-$305(incl tax etc) for 7 days, standard Suv-minivans were about $200 more! Boy-I hope they come down!
