From TSA

Passengers may observe additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers. TSA is carefully monitoring information related to terrorist tactics and working with our international partners to share information and security best practices.

The possible tactics terrorists might use include the concealment of explosives inside insulated beverage containers, so in the coming days, passengers flying within and to the U.S. may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers. While such items are not being banned from travel, TSA Officers have been trained to detect a variety of threats including the concealment of explosives in common items.

TSA will continue to deploy risk-based security measures and work with our international, federal, state, local and private sector partners to protect the traveling public.

As always, the safety and security of the American people is our highest priority and we ask the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to their local authorities.

Definitely. And it is actually pretty easy to open the bottom of the ones I have from our GF stay, and hide "something" inside, if desired.

If the bottom comes off, leave it off and perhaps taped to the side of the mug when it is packed.

What I would be concerned about is insulated containers that actually have food for eating on board the plane.

Bu tTSA - who are the ones who woudl hastle a traveler - are not looking at food containers, but insulated beverage containers.

I hope this doesn't effect taking an empty Hydro Flask on board with me. I like to take an empty one with me to fill up before I get on the plane (but after security) and also to have it for my day in the park. I would be seriously disappointed if I couldn't do that since I don't plan on checking my bag for a short trip next month.

Why do you have a problem with people posting information that might be helpful to others? :confused3

Do you actually think that TSA is worried about WDW mugs???

Tim/Hawk

If it's a mug with a double wall, then a traveler might receive a little more scrutiny. Or they might not. What's the harm in relaying this information? There's no need to be rude to the OP because you don't care about the information.

You are right. It was the information that was important.

I guess I am just fed up with the constant state of fear that we seem to be in. Watch your children; check for stray bags; should I have a leash on my child; get the proper ID; do I need a birth certificate; I didn’t put my middle initial on my airline reservation, etc..

My apologies OP; a momentary lapse of sanity.

Tim/Hawk.

I completely agree it is stupid and ridiculous as most of the TSA warnings and rules are. I only posted it so no one woudl be surprised at the airport as I have found Orlando airport and security to be the second most diisorganized and poorly run of the many airports around the world I have used - only Mumbai was worse.

If any airport in the US will take this stupid warning and make it worse - it will be Orlando. It has to be the most poorly run security screening in the US.
