Better chance at BWV October or December?

We were originally planning on going to Disney the first week of December 12/2-12/10. I called to make the reservation but only 2 of the 8 days were available at the BW with the room type we wanted. So I wait listed the week and booked at OKW as a backup. DW keeps talking about moving the trip up to October (mainly because she doesn't want to wait 7 months). The more I read about POP Warner week the more I am considering moving the trip up as well.

At this point I think my deciding factor would be the Boardwalk. Would we have a better shot at this point going with a wait list at the BW for the first (or second) week of October or the first week of December?

Sorry for the ramble, thanks for the help!

At this time, I think you have a better chance at BWV for preferred view in December. October is F&W and already even 7 month people are on the waitlist, at least for the December trip, you may have fewer people ahead of you.

There are usually discussions about PoP Warner on the Theme park board and people tend to say that for the most part none of the DVC resorts are affected. Busses to/from value resorts are sometimes noisy but parks aren't too affected by the group because of the activities the group has.

If only 2 of the 8 days were available in December then I agree with Bobbi that a preferred view in October might be a better shot. And that time of the year the weather is grand. We finally did MNSSHP last year for the first time and loved it so much that we are bringing the whole family this October. Good luck! :thumbsup2

I called Member Services and only 2 days were available the first week of October as well. So now I am back at square one. I think at this point the question is would we rather do Halloween in Disney or Christmas again. Since we did a Disney Christmas this past year we may be better off going back in October for Halloween. But I do like the December weather better. And if we did go this December our AP would be good until the end of next year (we will purchase it in December). So if we decided to do a May trip and a Halloween trip next year we wont have to worry about park tickets at all.

In 2012, either. In 2011, neither.

This one went over my head. The 7 month window just opened for 2011 and there is hardly availability. Why would there be a better shot in 2012?? Especially with parts of Fantasy Land tentatively opening back up. I would think 2012 would be even harder to get something at the 7 month mark, but im still new to this whole thing.

At this point, I think you will have a tough time getting into BWV for either set of dates. If you are counting on a standard view or a Boardwalk view, your chances are nearly zero.

That first week of December is very, very popular. Most who have reservations for that week booked on the very day the 11 month window opened.

The first two weeks of October don't book up quite as quickly (IMO), but they are still very popular and rooms go fast. Remember that you have Columbus Day in there. Lots of the southern schools have that day as a school holiday and some even have the entire week off for a fall break. The 7 month window for October opened in March, so you are not likely to find availability and there are undoubtedly waitlists for that time.

My advice for this year is to pick the time that works best for you, book where you can and waitlist for what you prefer. Then it's just up to Tinkerbell where you end up. Hope she's kind to you.

Good luck!

Very well put, thanks for the advice. I guess I am spoiled. We went the week after Thanksgiving into the first week of December last year and were able to get a 1BR with a BWV. We were wait listed 4 days, but they were in a row and they came through. I guess that was luck.

I did exactly what you suggested. I have a 1BR at OKW booked and have the BWV wait listed. It's bitter sweet, when we first joined DVC I wanted a taste of every resort. But since we like the Boardwalk so much we keep ending up there. At least this will force us to try a new resort.

As others said this time of year is very difficult at the BWV. October is F&W time and generally both BWV and BCV book at the 11 month mark. The first part of December carries a lower point need for a reservation and with Xmas in full swing this tends to book early as well. But, that doesn't mean your wait list won't come through...I wish you luck!

I think that poster was saying no one has booked 2012 yet! Although at the 7 month mark it'll be just as bad!

Thanks for the pixie dust guys. I called today just to split the wait list in half and found out that 6 of the 8 days were available now! So now my only wait list is for 12/4 & 12/5. If they don't come through I will sleep on the Boardwalk!

Thanks again

Congrats on snagging those dates at the Boardwalk! That is awesome, have been reading alot of posts about the difficulty of getting rooms at that time, so glad you had some pixie dust :wizard: Hope that your other two days come through! Although sleeping on the Boardwalk might have it's own appeal. ;)

Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes
