Having been at Blizzard Beach (hubby and dd were in line for a tube ride ) when a quick moving lightning storm hit us, I'm amazed at how fast the storms come over the flat landscape of Florida. It was sunny, and hot, and 2 minutes later we could see lightning not too far away, everyone was told to get under cover, and we got drenched. Really, it was on top of us in two minutes!
To be able to round up all those animals would be near to impossible, especially the ones that get to roam in the open areas that the trucks drive through. I am glad that it was a giraffe at AK (not that I would want it to be any animal!) and not AKL though, since dd got so attached to the AKL ones outside our room, she even named them all!
I had just left AK a couple hours before this happened I believe I may have one of the last pics taken of her
Seeing the giraffes on Kilimanjaro was the highlight of my DD2 trip!! I couldnt' bear to tell her...but my DD7 was sad
OMG, my post sounds so crude - "I'm glad it was..." is not what I should have posted. How about "I'm thankful that the poor giraffe did not suffer, and that the giraffes at AKL are safe"
cali2gagirl, I hope your dd7 will be OK. We go to WDW because it seems like a sheltered, safe place for our children, and it always hurts more, it seems, when tragedy finds us there.
When I was at the World a number of years ago, there where storm clouds moving in from the distance. I was standing on the beach at Ft Wilderness ( you could still swim in the lake) by a life guard with a radio. He got a call to get everyone out of the water. I mentioned to him that I was surprised he didn't get them out sooner since we could hear thunder. He said that Disney had their own radar and track all storms. When they get within a certain distance, then a warning is given to clear all beaches and pools.
