No refunds or rain checks for U.S. Open ticketholders
Posted at 3:16 PM by Michael Walker Jr. | Categories: Bethpage Black
Here's some mud in the face for fans who paid $100 for tickets to today's rain-soaked opening round at Bethpage Black only to have play suspended after three hours: No rain check, no refund, no exception.

According to the USGA's Rand Jerris, Thursday's abbreviated round -- in which the lead group made it to only the 11th hole -- counts as a day of golf and the USGA will not issue refunds or rain checks. While the tournament could finish on Monday due to forecasts for continued rain, Jerris said the USGA has not made a decsion regarding possible tickets for Monday. However, Thursday tickets will not be honored and fans can throw them away, Jerris said.

Jerris could not answer questions about how the no-refund decision was made or if there is a set number of holes or time on the course that constitutes a "day" of golf. He referred those question to USGA higher-ups who were not immediately available for comment. The extensive fine print on the back of the ticket does not cover the USGA's rain-delay policies, and no clear explanation of rain-check policy is contained in the USGA's online spectator guide.

That's just plain ridiculous- i can see not honoring tix for another day cause there would be too many spectators but there should be a refund- so that means the people with friday tickets get 36 holes of golf??? How is that fair? Remember how unpopular the PGA was before Tiger? Well obviously they don't.

That is the chance you take. It is clearly stated on the tickets at time of purchase that there are no refunds or rain checks. Most people buy a "season pass" anyway, giving you access every day of the tournament. I don't know if you can even buy single day tickets any more. I know for the PGA championship there are no single day tickets sold, just week-long passes. We have tickets for the PGA in August and went to the US Woman's Open last year and they both have the same rain-out policy.

I feel bad for those that had tickets yesterday & probably those who are going Saturday since it doesnt look good either, BUT that is the chance you take.

You can get single day tickets to some events, I know for sure the event at Firestone has single day tickets for sale.

The majors don't typically sell single day tickets though. The smaller events do but not generally the majors.

I feel bad for them. If the tickets say on them no rain refunds then there is nothing that can be done

Actually, it wasn't printed on the back of the ticket. There is no rain policy whatsoever on the ticket or posted at the event. And you can buy single day admission for this event.

It doesn't look good.
Especially when on the same day the Yankees had a 5 hour rain delay
and rewarded everyone who stayed- about 10,000 lower seats and a free ticket in bleacher, upper seats for a game next year or coupon good towards a purchase of a game.

You must not remember "Arnies Army" or the "Golden Bear". ;)

Unfortunately with Golf you sort of take your chances. There is a gray area since they did get up to the 11th hole.

We went to the TPC in 2000 in Florida and due to rain play had to be suspended and the event ended on Monday morning so we missed the final. I think with Golf that's sort of the risk you take since it's not like a baseball game where you could go to one of 80+ more home games. I also think it could be a safety issue trying to pack 2 days worth of fans into 1 day of golf.

I just heard that they are going to let Thursday's ticket holders to use the tickets on Monday, if they play on Monday. and it looks like they will be playing Monday.
