Best windows based computer?

yeah yeah I know Mac Mac Mac.... Im too dang old and set in my ways to get used to another platform. So I want a new Windows based computer.

What, in your opinion, is the best computer out there?

What should I stay away from?

Get a Mac and I'll trade you my new Sony Vaio, complete with Vista upgrade.

FWIW, the Vaio ran beautifully until I put the Vista in.

I love, love, love our HP. However, I've read so much about the issues with Vistas that I don't think I'd want one with Vista on it right now. I am seriously considering a Mac, though. I just hope I can figure it all out.

IMHO< stay away from windows based computers.

If you HAVE to do Windows, make sure a) that Vista is installed when you can (installation is notoriously difficult and half the time fails) and b) that the computer is NOT A DELL. Dell use odd cases which makes future dabbling nigh on impossible.

Also, go for AMD processors; they have the edge over the majority of Intel processors.

OK I bought an HP a1730n

Ive had HPs for the last 2 rounds and theyve been decent. Why mess with it?
With Vista preinstalled. It is supposed to be a good one.

Shutting down the ole HP now see you on the other side ( pray for me!)

After hours (literally) on the phone with Tech Support and more hours doing updates, I am proud to announce that...

Nothing is any different. Still no sound, no email, and everything is taking forever. I'm giving up. I've been banging my head against this wall long enough. Time for some Advil.

Second the for AMD processors. I had always had Pentiums until this laptop, it has a AMD Turion 64 and I love it!

We get great performance and reliability from Dell computers. We have a few Dell Dimensions around the house, actually (different generations, over the years), my laptop is an Inspiron, and I use a couple of Optiplexes and a Precision at work.
