i have several baby items that i used with DD (now 13) that are like new, and i'd like to sell them. i tried craigslist, but only got one bite (apparently, craigslist isn't big in our area). these items are REALLY nice, and one of them wasn't even used (baby swing, DD didn't like sitting in it), i hate for them to just sit around. what would be the best way to sell them? yard sale? newspaper ad? i'm open to suggestions! :goodvibes

Craigslist can be hit and miss. I think I finally sold my DD's dollhouse today. I've been listing it for s few months now.

Do you have any Resale or Consignment Kid's Stores in your area? Like Children's Orchard? We have that franchise as well as a single store in a nearby city. We have gotten rid (and bought)items at both places. The small store only gives store credit but CO gives either store credit, or cash money. I would look for one in your area.

Also there's a group in our area that holds 2 annual sales of people's things. Used to be limited to kid's but now inc. adult items. They handle all the selling and advertising for you (for a cut). You just have to bring in the item, tagged, and ready to sell. The one here has their own website where you can print out price tags and get all the particulars. See if you can find one nearby. Ours does one in Fall and then in Spring. Fall inc. costumes and coats and Spring inc. swim suits and Easter stuff etc.

if there in good shape I'd try a childrens consignment shop.

Backpage is like craigslist so you may want to try there, or attempt to sell them when you have a garage sale. You could also try any local kids consignment shops. But honestly, if they're really 13 years old, they probably have little to no value. You can get used baby stuff that's only a year or two old for pretty cheaply, as the stuff has such a high turnover.

awww, thanks guys. i hated to throw this stuff out, but if newer stuff sells so cheaply, there's probably little hope for older items like this, even if they are new to almost new. ah well, at least i didn't waste any money on a newspaper ad.

I would check to se if they are even to code. Many things are outdated and not up to current standards even 5 years ago.

you're right, i hadn't considered that. i'm not sure i have anything that would be classified as out of code though...exersaucer, baby swing, stroller, baby monitor, baby bathtub, barbie little tykes playhouse. all car seats have been thrown away. i will, however, check into that. but i guess i'll just be hauling it all to the dump anyway. at least we'll have more storage space!

Why dump it without trying to donate it first? While no one may want to buy it, I'm sure you could easily find someone on craigslist or freecycle who could use it if free.

I would list the better things on ebay with local pickup only. For auctions like that DO NOT TAKE PAYPAL - take cash only at the pickup.

The Barbie little tikes playhouse did very well a year or 2 ago on ebay especially if you were willing to ship it.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, there have been lots of recalls on the type of items you've mentioned (swings, exersaucers, etc) in the last 13 years...Also, a lot of the standard baby equipment now comes with a lot more "bells and whistles" than they did 13 years ago...Heck, my youngest is only 4 and I'm amazed at how "dated" some of his stuff would look now! :lmao:

I wouldn't bring it to the dump though...I'd donate it and at least get the tax deduction!:thumbsup2

Just checked ebay and if your Barbie Little Tikes house is in very good condition then you could get about $70 for it. Might be worth looking into.

please don't dump it, use the free section on craigslist, freecycle or put up a free ad at your local grocery store..times are tough and some ppl will take and use what items they can get..i've seen some older strollers posted for free on craigslist around here and they get picked up..can't hurt to try..good luck!

that's the one thing that needs cleaning up. it's sun-faded, but otherwise really nice. DD never used it much. as an only child, she didn't play outside a lot because she had no one to play with out here in the boonies, except me, and i'm allergic to the sun. poor kid. thanks for looking into it :goodvibes i would donate some of the things, but if there's a chance they've been recalled, i wouldn't want to give someone a recalled item; with my luck, i'd be sued for it. best just to trash them, i guess. probably shouldn't have held out hope DH would change his mind about a 2nd baby for so many years, lol.

Can you donate them to a homeless or womans shelter or a church? If you let them know the items are in good condition most will take them and do the leg work of finding out if there have been recalls etc on the items. Please don't trash items that are in good condition that are still needed.

i can certainly check with my aunt's church and see if they need them, or if they know of a family that needs them. thanks :)

I agree with a church, a local daycare or mother day out program or a woman's shelter. You can also call local food banks, many of them will take clothing and baby items to give out to those in need.

Me me me me! I really want a Barbie Little Tikes house! :) Like most Little Tikes, those are pretty indestructible. Most of that type of Little Tikes was originally rated for age 2+. Even it it is old, I'm very comfortable with the older Little TIkes. We have a huge collection of the dollhouse size Little Tikes stuff but my dd is ready to move up to the barbie size.'

I sold a Little Tikes barbie size refrigerator and stove for a handsome sum a couple years ago on ebay. Found them at a church sale, should have kept them but needed the money at the time. Have I mentioned how much I'd love to have that house? lol.

As for the baby items, there should be recall lists somewhere online. I'll post back if I can find the link. If they have been recalled, I'd recommend throwing them out, sorry to say. I know most play pins were recalled, not sure about the swings. Excercauser should be fine to sell or give away.

I've donated lots of baby items to the local women's shelter. The one that I donated to in our town is always looking for items that the women and their chidlrne can use when moving into a new place as money is often scarce. So while you might not make money from the items, they would be donated ot a good cause.

If you have a crisis pregnancy center in your area, they would probably take the items, also. I've donated a bunch of stuff to mine (double stroller, bathtubs, swing). I agree with a pp about checking for a recall for the items first, especially the playpen and swing.

Do you have any friends with younger kids? My friends and I all have kids around the same age so we roate toys, clothing, and other items. In fact, last year my good friend gave me all her 2t stuff. In the bag was 8 pairs of Gap jeans - it was awesome! It was so nice to not have to go shopping for stuff except for undies, socks, and shoes. I really appreciated her thinking of my daughter.

I also love the idea of donating to a needy family. This same friend of mine was a teacher at the high school and any time DH outgrew some clothes, we would send them to her. She knew several boys who didn't have much and loved the opportunity to have name-brand clothing.
