Best way to get to monorail?

Will be camping at the Fort beginning Oct. 4th. On arrival day would like to ride the monorail loop and get off at a resort for early dinner and some exploring and to make the seperation from the real world. I am thinking the best way would be to ride the boat to MK and then hop on the monorail there. The admission gate to park is past monorail entrance right? I, of course wouldn't want to have to use admission ticket to get on the monorail. If anyone's memory is clearer than mine on this, please let me know.:confused3

Either that or take the other boat to the Contemporary and get on there and you're right there on the loop faster. That's what we always do. In fact, we usually have our first night dinner at Chef Mickeys, hop the monorail and stop at each resort around the loop, finishing up at MK for Wishes.

Actually, the monorail entrance is further away from the entrance. As you walk up to the monorail entrance, the turnstiles are up on your right. You don't have to pass through them to enter the monorail ramp. I am pretty sure you can get to the entrance ramp without going through security but you may be walking against the incoming foot traffic from those that just got off, in order to get over to the ramp that goes up to the station.

You won't need tickets to get to the monorail at MK.

As Donna mentioned, you can take a boat to the Contemporary. I would go to the dock and take which ever boat comes first. In case it matters, you have to fold up a stroller to get on the Contemporary boat but not on the MK boat.

Since the Contemp. boat is so much smaller than the MK one, it could be a longer wait if you don't get on right away. Also, ask if it goes to WL first. In june, it was stopping there first a few times we rode it. I just thought since you will be hitting the monorail resorts, you could just do that one first and then leave for the fort from the MK boat dock on the way back.

Thanks....totally forgot about the boat straight to the Contemporary! that will probably be our plan...I also like the idea of just hopping on whatever boat comes first! We will be just trying to have a relaxing arrival day anyway. Thanks again!

And no, you definitely do not need a ticket to ride the monorail. All monorails are outside the park. Even the Epcot monorail that takes you through a loop inside the park stops just outside the entrance gate.

Be aware of MK's closing time. If you are going to dinner anywhere near closing time, do NOT take the boat to MK and plan on hopping on the monorail there. I made that mistake one trip and it was a nightmare getting on. I wish I had taken the other boat. Remember that MK closes at 7pm on nights that they have one of the ticketed parties like MNSSHP, MVMCP, and P&PP.
