Best way to do this?

Hi! I’m booking for first DVC stay for MLK weekend in January because the fall is so booked up. My parents are coming for a few days too. Our UY is March. I need to borrow some points for my parents stay. I’m afraid of them changing their mind in a few months. Should I book their stay first with the 2021 points and then my stay with the 2021 points and the few borrowed points I need? They know they cannot change their mind after Oct. I figured if they change their mind by Oct, I can still cancel their stay and have time to bank those 2021 points into 2022. Does this make sense? TIA!

It won’t really matter. If you use the borrowed points for their stay and then have to cancel you can just rebook your stay (modify online but don’t make any changes) and it will re-allocate the points used for your stay using any available borrowed points before using current UY points.

Another question: are you able to change all the guests staying in a room without any sort of penalty? I know I have other family that would come if my parents bailed. This newbie is paranoid about losing any of her points!

No penalty for changing guests. If you need to change the lead guest you have to call in to have member services do it (it might be able to be done via chat also). You can change secondary guests online on your own.

Just adding a point to the above: be aware that if your parents bail in Oct and you put others on their reservation, you can transfer any regular park tickets you bought for the parents to those new guests; however, you will lose any park reservations already made using those tickets (park reservations are considered personal to the person named) and will have to make new ones for the new guests, and that is something that may be a problem three or fewer months out.

You can change the lead guest with chat; I did it this way a few weeks ago. Avoid the long phone wait times.
