Best Way to Bring an Extra Lens to DW??

I am keeping my camera backpack at the hotel and just bringing a regular backpack to bring all my stuff for the day into the parks. I want to bring just 2 lenses- but does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep my second lens safe on rides?? Of course I'll have both covers on it to keep it from getting scratched, but I'm worried some of the rides might be a little rough. My plan for my camera is just to wrap it in a sweatshirt and store it in my backpack.

I use a small videocamera bag from Tamrac. It's got one little divider in it and can throw the extra lens in there when shooting with the other...and it has the side perk of being able to JUST barely fit my DSLR and fitted lens, with the extra lens squeezed on top, and zip closed for protection in case of unexpected rain. It's a soft nylon type case that when not loaded with anything can be scrunched up nice and small - I can bring it with me squeezed into my main camera bag and pop it open when I get to my destination.

I'm cheap. I use a hand towel with a rubber band around it to cushion things in my back pack when I'm not carrying my lens bag. Or when I use my hip pack at WDW. the etra lenses are cushioned by the rain ponchos. Though I still carry a towel in there to dry things off if it does rain.

I have used a Domke messenger style bag before. It says "large" but it isn't and can fit 2-3 lens or a body with lens attaches plus an extra lens inside:

I have heard the Shootsac is great work woman:

I'm presently using a Boda lens bag to hold my body with lens attached as well as a extra lens on the inside. It fits on majority of the rides at WDW. It fits under the seat netting on Star Tours...the bin at Mission Mars and netting at Dinosaur.

The best way is to bring an extra lens is the same as the best way to bring anything else you don't want to lug around. You put it in your wife's purse. I thought everyone knew that.

LOL! My friends and I always joke that we all need wives. Now I have one more reason!

The Shootsac is a great lens bag of you need to access your lenses fast while shooting on location, like an event or something. But it's got no padding and lenses tend to fall out if you're not careful. I have a friend who set hers down too hard and all of her lenses were stored front element down in it. It busted all three of them. It wouldn't be my ideal bag to bring to WDW. I have a Tamrac Messenger 4 that I use like a Shootsac, same functionality but it's a little less pretty and a lot more padded. Which is good since I'm a bag dropper.

I used a Tamrac Expedition bag....probably too much bag for what the OP needs, but I was routinely able to carry 2-3 lens plus my camera on any and all rides with no issues.

We can all spend your money for you but my suggestion would be to just do the same for the extra lens. Wrap it up in something and put it in the backpack. Just be careful with putting the backpack down and opening it up and you will be fine.

I use a photographers vest allows me to carry 4 bottles of water in rear pockets and lenses in front pockets. Also allows me to go throgh the 'No Bags' security line although I always give the security guy the chance to examine pockets.

It's easy and weight is distributed around body so much easier for full day in parks with camera.

The downside of course is people wanting photopass pictures...

Yes.... but what do you do when you're the wife??
I'll tell ya! You bring these!

Yeah sure they eat a lot and they whine when they get tired lugging all your equipment around, but don't they look cute in those hats???

The best way is "don't bring the extra lens". On my last trip when I had to be my own pack mule, that extra lens became a real hassle. After a few days, I decided to travel light. I only used my 50mm 1.8 prime. It forced me to think about my pictures a little more, but I got some nice shots (even at night hand held).
