We just booked our next trip, and it turned out to be one day longer than what we'd planned! So... all the careful planning of meals is now a little more open.

With that in mind, what's the absolute best vegetarian meal that can be had at WDW? What one thing is not to be missed? I know a lot of the restaraunts have seasonal menus - I'll be going in late September.

It's hard to say which is the best. I think it really depends on what you would like to eat. But finding a good vegetarian restaurant is in Walt Disney World is very easy.

First, there is the great book, Vegetarian Walt Disney World and Greater Orlando by Susan Shumaker and Than Saffel. It's a great resource when you're looking for a vegetarian meal. And the book provides some suggestions on vegetarian dishes that you may ask the chef to prepare by calling ahead 24 hours.

And then there are the menus available online at WDWinfo.com. Now when I am planning my ADR's, I look up restaurants that we might be interested in and check out their menus. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised by what I find.

For example, a steakhouse isn't always a steakhouse. Check out the menu at Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary. They offer a vegetarian penne pasta tossed with spinach, tomatoes, Shiitake mushrooms, Kalamata olives, and parmesan cheese.

Or how about Le Cellier. They have a roasted red pepper stuffed with black bean and corn dressing served with noodle salad and peanut sauce. They also offer vegetable side dishes such as cream cheese mashed potatoes, creamed spinach gratinee, grilled asparagus, and oven roasted wild mushrooms.

Some other interesting dishes are at Whispering Canyon Cafe, try their Canyon Veggie Plate (stewed cannellini beans topped with sauteed spinach, oven-dried tomatoes, grilled yellow squash, and fried potato nest with honey-basil-ginger oil), and The Hollywood Brown Derby where you can get the Thai Noodle Bowl which is made with coconut-crusted tofu, edamame, snap peas, bok choy, and shiitake mushrooms in red curry broth.

For us, we are anxiously awaiting our next trip to Walt Disney World when we can sample the the Red Pepper-Mushroom Risotto at Narcoossee's and the Fire Roasted Eggplant & Goat Cheese Ravioli at The Flying Fish.

Happy Vegetarian Eating!!

Lots of us vegetarians love Boma for the variety of veggie-friendly food, but there are many great meals to be had all over WDW. I don't think there's a "best" meal for every vegetarian, just people's personal favorites. :)

Do you do character meals? DD13 (our family vegetarian) and I really liked the pasta dish they made especially for her at the Garden Grill in EPCOT. It had really fresh vegetables and a pesto (I think) sauce. We did have ask specifically for it, but it only took them about 10 minutes to bring it out.

My 24 yr old daughter is vegetarian & our last trip was a grand gathering of 15 people including her brother & 6 male cousins ages 16-28, all big meat eaters. Her favorite was the Asian spring rolls & pumpkin ravoli at Wolfgang Puck Cafe at DTD. She also found lots of choices at WPExpress for counter service. At both Jiko & California grill the vegetarian entree(every place has one) did not appeal to her & they allowed her to get 3 starters to count as her starter & entree. Jiko she had the taste of Africa, the sweet potato tamales & lentil pastilles(sp) she didn't really like any of them, said they were all too bland. At CG she had a butternut soup, salad & the carmelized onion flatbread & really enjoyed those. Columbia Harbor House in the MK she liked the vegetarian sandwich.

For CS, I love the vegetarian platter at Tangerine Cafe (I order it because I love it, and I'm not vegetarian!)

Some of my favorite veggie meals have been...

Boma- all of it!

Rose and Crown- Vegetable Selection - roasted vegetables wrapped in herb phyllo dough with saffrom rice in a curry sauce and mustard cream $12.99

50's Prime Time Cafe- Roasted Pepper - stuffed with whole grains and smoked ratatouille $12.49

Brown Derby- Noodle Bowl with Coconut Crusted Tofu, edamame, snap peas, bok choy, and mushrooms in a red curry broth $17.89 -Over all not a great meal, definetly not worth 2 TS on the DDP.

Tangerine Cafe- Vegetarian Platter - served with Tangierine Couscous salad, hummus, tabouleh $8.95

I also second the book "Vegetarian Guide to WDW and Greater Orlando"!

Boma is definitely my favorite! We went to Jiko for the first time in March and I was really disappointed. It was probably my worst meal of our trip and I had really high hopes about it.

I really like the vegetable strudel at Coral Reef. Crystal Palace is pretty good too (especially if you are interested in character meals). DH (a carnivore) loves Ohana, so I've been dragged there on the last couple of trips. They have a tofu-noodle-miso vegetarian entree that's okay, but I really enjoy the salad, potatoes, and dessert there!
