My BFF is looking into buying and was asking which UY would be best for them. She said that they will probably vacation most around the kids Spring Break, which would be late March - mid April. I'm still confused myself about the whole UY thing. Can anyone make a suggestion as to what would work best for them? TIA!!!

Choose a UY just prior to your favorite vacation time. That way, should you have to cancel your vacation, you will have plenty of time to bank your points instead of losing them.

Hi disneymotherof3,
If your friend travels in March and April the best use years would be any month from September-March.

The reason to pick a specific use year has to do with cancellations. If you travel in March and you have a September use year and you need to cancel your March reservation there is still time to bank the points.

If you had a June use year and had to cancel a March reservation the points would be too late to be banked and would need to be used within 3 months.

I would not say of the months I mentioned one is better than another and anything within those months would work. Keep in mind there is no November or January use year.

I hope this helps and let me know if you or your friend has any other questions.

With March/April travel, choosing Feb UY would work out as it would also allow for summer travel (which may happen at some point with children).

If, going around the holidays (Dec) would ever be an option, then a Dec UY would work out.

The closer to the beginning of your UY that you travel, the more flexibility you have when changing a reservation or cancelling it, especially if borrowed points are involved.

While travel habits can change down the road, it can be a good thing if you know that you have set travel times. I travel in the summer because I am a teacher and anticipate doing that for at least the next 11 years (until retirement), so I choose June UY.

Good luck!

Find the best contract you can. Whatever use year that contract has is the best use year.

If you have a choice and there are no differences other than use year, go ahead and avoid the worst use years (the month after your most likely vacation). But don't stress about it. What's a "good" use year for one trip, is bad for another. It's a 50-year contract and you are probably going to travel at many different times over the next 50 years. That February use-year that folks will tell you is perfect (and it is for March trips) isn't so good for Christmas trips.
