So... my DS can't wait to ride the monorail. We are not staying at a monorail resort. Since we have to do the Fantasmic DP out of pocket, I have one extra TS to book. I was thinking that on our MK day, we could ride the monorail and get lunch, then continue on the monorail back to MK to take the bus back to POFQ for our afternoon swim/nap.

Does this sound like a good plan? Which resturaunt would you recommend for lunch? We have never been to CR, GF or the POLY, and I'm excited to see one of them. I was thinking Kona at the POLY or GF Cafe????? :confused3

i think i would try the concourse steak house.the food looked really good and it wouldn't be a waste of credits. the gf cafe just looks kind of like glorified counter( sandwiches) and Kona at lunch is kind of limited also to mostly sandwiches

Keeping your son in mind, I would definitely book Ohana at the Poly. He will have a BLAST there! They have activities for the kiddies and a huge fire pit that cooks skewers of meets for you to have. It is all you can eat, but they bring everything to your table. See if you can request a window seat too because it overlooks the grounds and lagoon. We had a wonderful time there.

I really think your son would get a kick out of seeing the fire pit and different things at Ohana. You will not be disappointed.

I love Kona Cafe!
I would definitely suggest checking out Kona's menu!
Personally, I love the Kona chowder, sticky wings and macadamia crusted mahi mahi (for dinner) but the desserts are truly standouts- the Kiddie Kone is beautiful and all the kids wonder how they got the cone to stand up all by itself like that! lol.
I don't know how old your son is, but they have a nice kids menu as well as the complete adult menu- Kids can get a hot dog, burger, grilled chicken, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, pbj or spaghetti and meatballs. They're also very accomodating for special requests- skim milk, subbing veggies for a starch, etc.
I think the best thing to do is to check out the menus on AllEarsNet.com and look at the places on the monorail and see which one will work best for you.
Good luck!

I have studied Kona Cafe menu and it looks so good! That is our MK TS choice for lunch.

I love Ohana, too, but they do not offer lunch there, just dinner.

We love both GF Cafe and Kona for lunch. Both have excellent food and it's fun to visit the resorts. We've only had lunch at the Concourse Steakhouse once but we were not impressed with the food or service. I'm sure we'll try it again someday but with Kona and GFCafe as competition, it won't be any time soon.

BTW, the Grand Floridian Cafe isn't at all like counter service. It is actually a beautiful restaurant with a long wall of floor to ceiling windows and a glassed in gazebo type space at the back of the restaurant. It is full of light, elegant and has a nice menu including some entrees. Linen napkins, usually excellent service, etc.. I think Jan might have it confused with Gasparillas.

Your plan sounds like great fun.

We just stayed at the CR for 6 days and had lots of TS meals, including lunch. If you want to take a monorail for a TS lunch - I vote for the Kona Cafe. The menu is great, they have Elvis playing, and its always nice to visit the poly. We had lunch there twice - Once I had the duck dumplings (pot stickers) which were excellent and a salad and once I had the pot stickers again because they were so good and the beef noodle soup. My husband had a burger once and the pork sandwich. The pork sandwich was better. Deserts are great, too.

We also had lunch at the concourse steakhouse. It was empty when we ate there - and seemed to be empty most days. I ordered french onion soup (excellent) and a double burger (which was way too much food - had to bring back 1/2 the burger) and my husband had a burger. The food is good and its never crowded but I would not rate it nearly as high as the Kona.

The GF cafe is nice, too and this way you get to spend some time at the GF. We had dinner there and the food was good.

Of the choices, I would pick the Kona Cafe - you will get a nice break from the MK and enjoy your lunch.

Thanks so much for all the votes.... Kona Cafe it is!

I'm going to call and try to get an ADR! Can't wait to see the POLY. :sunny:

I would have to pick Kona. The food is great and the Poly is just so nice and relaxing, and Kona itself is never crowded.

It's a really nice relaxing place to eat lunch.

I think you'll be very happy with your choice. We love Kona for lunch! :)
