I will be heading to WDW in about 5 days and was wanting to get opinions on the best type of tripod to use. I currently have a Bogen 3021 tripod with the Bogen 3063 fluid head on it. I have contemplated picking up a Gorilla pod, but am not sure. I will be shooting with my Canon Rebel XT with either my 28-90mm or my 75-300mm.

So what are your thoughts?

With tripods, you trade off between weight, stability, and price. What's important to you? How much are you willing to spend? How much are you willing to carry? How tall are you? How small do you want it to pack down? How many leg segments are you willing to hassle with?

I use a Gitzo GT2450 with an Acratech ball head and leveling base. I'm happy with them and think that they'll do very well at Disney.

Mark is correct. You give up stability and safety of your equipment with a lighter cheaper tripod. I am not sure I would trust my 75-300 lens and camera to a 25-50 dollar tripod you wrap around something.

If you were using it to provide stability and you never took your hand off of it, then maybe.

But that is just me!

I am actually looking to get a gorilla pod.... to hold my SB-800 or 900 flash!

The Gorilla SLR-Zoom will be ok with your 28-90 but will be unhappy with your 75-300. Using the camera tripod socket (instead of one that mounts on the lens, for better balance) makes it even worse. Although I do not have a 75-300 this has been my experience with a 70-200 f/4. Ymmv...

GorillaPods also loosen up over time and use.

I have used pan heads and ball heads, I prefer ball heads. Some of us put our tripods in a locker until evening, the lockers are small so check the length of whatever tripod you plan to buy to see if it will fit.
