I'm sure this information is here somewhere, but 45 minutes of searches has yielded nothing but wading through threads - useful information, a lot of it , but not what I'm looking for!

I had settled on one book and then read a review which said a lot of the information is inaccurate.

We are leaving soon (yes, the busiest WDW week of the year) and I'd love to be able to be pretty knowledgeable about what we are doing!

Thanks in advance -

Seana

Seana, first off welcome to the DIS! Secondly, enjoy your trip! :wizard:

I unfortunately cannot answer your question on which is the best travel book. But I am most certain you will get the help you're looking for on this site!

I find the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World to be the most accurate, complete and fun to read guide book. I would strongly recommend it.

Welcome, by the way. I know what you mean about the search function here. I have had no luck with it so far.

I also agreee the Unofficial guide is a great resource, but another great resource book titled "The Complete Walt Disney World 2010" by Mike and Julie Neal is great. The 2010 version comes out next week. (12/20)

I like the PASSPORTER. It has some neat pockets for storing tickets, reservation emails. LOL

For my money, the Unofficial Guide is by far the best source. It is the most comprehensive and is a really good read. I have bought just about every guide book out there (oddly enough the only one I have never purchased is the Passporter) and the Unofficial Guide has been the best for me. Each year a new one comes out around the end of August and I always get an updated copy.

I bought the PASSPORT last year since I was planning a trip.

I did find it informative and I liked the organizational stuff that came with it. However, I still found myself seeking more specific information (which brought me to the disboards).

Maybe you could borrow some books from the library and compare which would be worth the purchase.

I also prefer the unoffical guide and I also used the planning tools on its website - touringplans. I used the ridemax site for tour plans when I go to disneyland but on my last trip to disney world I actually found the plans on the unoffical guide site were more useful for me.

I also recommend the Unofficial Guide. If you hadn't already planned your trip, I'd recommend the correspondig website, but I'm not sure how much it would benefit you since your dates are already set.

My three favourite books for trip planning to WDW are The Unofficial Guide, The Complete Guide to WDW and Passporter :)

Unofficial guide for the most complete, accurate, comprehensive guide.

Birnbaums for kids - for kids. not all that bi partisan but its got pictures

Mousejunkes for Disney vets or if you get bit by 'the bug'. It is hands down the most hilarious book I've ever read. I cried most of the way thru it from laughing.

I would caution you to be careful things at WDW changes very often and many books are not updated yearly and may have lots of outdated info. Look for a book that has a recent updated copy.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words. Monday the new edition of our guidebook The Complete Walt Disney World 2010 ships... finally! Hope you like it.

I'm personally a HUGE fan of the Passporter. It's concise and digestable and made an excellent travel partner. I marked mine up with mini post-its and highlighters so I could find the info I needed very quickly.

I have asked for the Unofficial Guide for Christmas as a supplement and a different perspective.

When you ask which of those two are better, you're going to get arguments for both.

Good luck!

I highly recommed the "PassPorter". It can be purchased at Passporter.com and they ship quickly! Enjoy your trip!

I really think you need both the Passporter and the unofficial guide.I have been a fan of the unofficial guide since my first trip as an Adult in 1987 (yikes did I admit that lol). This past trip I used Passporter too and they compliment each other well. Passporter has a good website too.
If you haven't already found allears.net for menues and detailed info, ridmax for itenerary planing and tikiman if you like the Poly please check them out. My trip was much easier with all these resources and of course DIS!!!!!

I get the Complete Guide and the unofficial guide whenever we are planning a trip ;).

The Complete Guide (IMO) has the BEST pictures and lots of great information. They are also the last of the guidebooks to go to press for the year, so they usually have the most up-to-date information in their book. So if Disney makes an announcement later in the year, the Complete Guide is the only one who might have included the info.

The Unofficial guide has lots of information as well and does a great job of explaining how different rides work and what the story is behind them. The downside, is that a good portion of the book is exactly the same from year to year. For example the reader comments and anecdotes have been the same since 2007 even though they get new reader reviews and comments each year. They update the reader poll results, but not the comments readers write to them.
