We leave tomorrow and are doing some last minute prep for the hot weather-we have cooling towels, mister fans, water bottles-any other ideas for keeping cool in the hot weather?

Save some of the air conditioned attractions; Pirates, Presidents, Philharmagic, etc, for the hotter times of the day.

this is my kist and you all ready have some

cooling towels I use O2cool
fain with mister
columbia clothing I like the omni frezze (0)
I bring a small umbrella a hat for mr traps to much heat in and I also do not like hats and I am very careful when I open the umbrella
free ice water
drink a lot of water and then drink some more
do some indoor things show with AC ADR durning the heat of the day 3 to 5ish

do not be scared to go back to your hotel to rest rope drop to about 1 and back to the park around 6 to close this way you are not in the park for the hotel part of the day and with the parks opened late it is more do able.

I put ice in gallon size zip lock bag (I get the ice at the vending machine at the resort) and place it in a soft side cooler backpack we got from Target and also place my Frogg Togg towel in the cooler. The ice will last all day. If we feel hot we find an air conditioned place and sit with the ice pack on face and neck along with the frog togg towel. So helpful. Just got back today and this worked great just like it has in the past. To prevent leaks I put the ice in a ziplock and seal it then place that ziplock bag inside of another 1 gallon ziplock. The bags can be reused the next day.

I bought instant cold packs to bring this year. I'm hoping there won't be an issue with bringing them in the parks with all the new security stuff. Our DD has issues with heat, so these should help to keep her cool & to cool her down when she does start to get overheated.

You might want to bring zip lock bags and get ice from QS the cold packs only stay cold for about 10 -15 minutes

Frog Toggs, filtered water bottle, cooling wraps made from plant gel beads, misting fans, and umbrella hats. I'm also bring a washcloth for each that we can wet as needed. I'm also wearing airy shoes to keep my feet cool. I hear crocs are great for comfort and staying cool. We may try those.

When taking a break, I place something cold (like my drink cup, water bottle or a piece of ice) on the pulse point inside my wrist and I feel like it cools me down. Consider switching out baseball caps and hats for a visor so the top of you head can breathe. For a quick treat, if you're carrying a cooler, toss your sunscreen in there (inside a ziploc bag) and it's nice and cold when you reapply. Avoid dark colored outfits if you can. Wearing light colors and breathable fabrics makes a world of difference.

The AC indoors. :teeth:

Okay, real tips. Wear clothing made of cooling material like Columbia's Omni Freeze Zero or Under Armor Heat Gear or Nike's Cool Max or similar. Cotton. . .ehhh. Well. Cotton is not hot, so there's that. Cotton does not wick away sweat and sweat does not evaporate quickly off cotton and that can be miserable.

Wear everything loose - you don't want tight clothing, because no air circulates. Wear lightweight clothes. Drink enough to hydrate yourself properly. Take breaks. Wear sandals and get your feet wet sometimes. Wear hats with big brims so that you're carrying around your own shade (and protecting yourself from sunburn). Visors. . .well. You can get sunburn on the top of your head pretty easily, and I know someone with a large divot out of the top of his head because he never covered his head (got melanoma, had to have a chunk of his scalp removed). If your head is hot in a hat, find a different hat, one with ventilation.

I don't care for cooling towels, because in humid environments they're cool for about 15 minutes, then they're like covering yourself in warm spit.

Mainly, we do as we do at home(in a similar climate) - we duck into the AC whenever possible.

Stop by any quick service restaurant and ask for a couple of the free ice water cups (they're small) , pour them into your water bottles and keep refilling from the water fountains.

My tips:

- Take frequent breaks to get out of the heat. Find places that are air conditioned and take a break to cool off.

- Stay hydrated. Keep drinking water. And when you feel like you've had enough, drink more.

- Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing that is make from moisture wicking fabrics. Stay away from cotton.

- Wear a large brimed hat.

- When you feel sick or tired, don't try to push through it. Stop and take a break.

I take rest with crystal light flavored water and a granola bar. I also use chilly towels
The year I went with 2 friends, I drank flavored water and just plain water and I drank
lots, my one friend didn't and shortly after lunch I noticed she was having a problem so I went and
got her water and potato chips and made her eat the chips and drink the water, and shortly after she had
to drink more as her chips made her more thirsty and that was great...she really looked bad.
I drink alot when I am there...but I also carry my chilly towel...

We did something similar on our trip end of August last year in AK - the hottest of any of the parks. We were both starting to feel ill from the heat so after EE we went into the bathroom and wet down our cooling towels for the first time on the trip and sat on the floor of the EE gift shop for 20 minutes. We weren't the only ones in there either!

After feeling well enough we made are way to the not so fast pass line at Kali rapids. We had rain ponchos but opted to just pray for a soaking which we got. Then we walked over to Nemo to watch the show. I've never been so happy to be freezing cold. It brought our core body temp back down to something more normal and we felt tons better.

So my take on staying cool if you can mix in outdoor rides with a water ride and air conditioned meals or attractions.

But don't be shy if you are getting hot sit in a gift shop or at a table in Dinosaurus in AK or Rays Starlight in MK noone will care.

Cooling towels are great when you really aren't able to cool down- as are the mister fans. I would say be careful with the smaller fans. I gave one to DD12 last year and in an instant she'd gotten her long hair tangled in the blades. Ugh

We brought a Brita water bottle and asked at the QS restaurants and snack stands for a cup of ice water to pour into the bottle in order to keep hydrated throughout the day -but sometimes i would just dump the ice water over our heads rather than into the bottle. They would not fill up the bottle directly

We wore dri fit clothing so continued wetness was never an issue

Also I would highly recommend Body Glide to combat blisters. We would rub the stick -that looked like deodorant -every morning on our feet and in between our toes and it worked like a charm. I've heard Body Glide is also good for areas where you may chafe.

And even though we like to go go go our strategy last year -as well as this year -is midday pool breaks. You'd be surprised how refreshed and energized you feel for an evening in the park after some time in the pool and a shower.

Thank you all for all the tips, this is the 1st year we are going when it will be hot, so i know what to be taking..
