We are hoping to make a trip to San Diego and DL this summer. Hopefully for around 10 days, going to San Diego first and then DL. Our choice of dates is either 6/22 - 7/2 or 8/9 - 8/19.

Can anyone provide any feedback on the difference in weather for those timeframes. Would June be measurably cooler than August? Rain? How about crowds at DL or SD Zoo? Any info would be appreciated!

june is a very ugly month, famous for "June gloom", Aug would be much prettier and better swimming weather.

Crowds will be similar both months... Schools are out in CA at that time, so you're in peak season. Weather is better in August.

Thanks for the feedback.

In what way is the weather better in August? I don't like it when it is really hot. Does it get humid?

We will want to swim when we are at DL, would like to while in SD, but even if we can just go to beach that would be okay. It might be better if a bit cooler while we are in SD as we are going to the zoo, etc.

Thanks.

June is generally still quite cool, and even cold in the evenings. Not great if you're liking for swimming weather. You're going to see temps from 60 - 75 degrees. Costal areas have a thick marine layer (June Gloom) that either doesn't burn off, or burns off late in the day, so it's not ideal beach weather.

August is warmer and the June gloom marine layer is generally gone (or burns off early in the day). You'll see temps of 80 - 90 degrees. The coastal areas rarely get past 85, inland it's warmer. You'll have slightly higher temps at Disneyland in August, but it always cooks down a night regardless if the season. It only gets humid if it rains (3-7 days per year), and that's generally in the winter.

Also, if you come in late august, you might have slightly better crowds, as many CA schools start in mid August.

If you are used to humidity, the "humidity" in Anaheim won't feel like anything to you. It's more humid that Arizona or Utah, but for East Coasters and especially southerners, it's pretty much mom existent. It doesn't typically get really hot in August, but it can, just as it doesn't typically get hot in June, but it can.

"June gloom" descends over all the coast that month. It's become my least favorite month out here (I live in the Bay Area) because the sunshine kinda disappears. I wouldn't recommend that month if you want to experience the famous California sunshine. (just like I don't recommend August to people wanting to visit San Francisco- it's our winter.)

I think you'd enjoy the weather more in August if you want sunshine. If you don't mind overcast days and cooler weather, especially evenings, then you'll be fine in June.

Ok...what about July? We will be there from the 8th-12th. Does the weather start to get better by then, or is it still clinging on to June Gloom? Of course, I know nothing is a guarantee, but just looking for averages. Thanks!

It's kinda hit or miss, generally the weather is warming up and the marine layer is gone... But I've seen days of gloom well into July.

August is ALWAYS hot and humid and crowded in So Cal.

I suppose this depends greatly upon where you are from. :) Only in rare cases, where it's out of the norm weather patterns, have I ever felt California is humid at all. But I'm from the East Coast originally, and spent time living on the coast in the South, so it's all in the perspective, I suppose.

We are on East Coast as well, so we know (and hate!) humidity.

Crowded - will it be more crowded at DL and in SD in August than it is in June? We would probably be there somewhere between August 8 - 20. In June we would be there around the 18th.

If you're used to East Coast humidity, you won't notice California's "humidity". August is generally a bit less crowded than June because some CA schools begin fall session in August. However, it's not really a make or break difference if there's a time that works better for you. For us locals, (at least the ones on the coast) August is when summer really kicks into full swing and Aug/Sept are our best beach weather.
