Best time to see Shrek

Since Shrek no longer has Express Pass Access, when would be the best time to try and see it? Obviously, I wouldn't try at 2pm, but is near close or right at open the best time? Also, does hotel guests get early access to the parks? Should I expect loads of people already in the park when it opens?

Well. If you are at a On-Site Hotel I think they let you use express. Ask the people at the front in the ridiculous outfits. If your not at a on site hotel, Do it at Opening, Or closing, because if your on the line before closing your guarenteed a ride.

By the time 10 am rolls round shrek and Jimmy can have a 75 minute wait!!!

I agree with what everyone has said so far. But to answer one of your other questions...YES!!! The park will start getting packed at opening! Be prepared! If you're an on-site hotel guest, it shouldn't be too bad for you. If you're not an on-site hotel guest, but you have a strategy...say, you and your group decide to ride single rider on the things that offer it, etc....then it still won't seem as bad. Good luck!

No, I don't think hotel guests get in early. Last year, there was a blurb on the web site talking about it, but I've never heard of early entry.
Durning the summer, the park open at 08:45am, or even 08:30am on very busy days. Be there early and go into the first show. On my trip a few weeks ago, I was first in line at the gate for IOA, the park opened at 08:45am.
And yes, the wait goes to 75 minutes by 10am for Shrek. Why this attraction still has the huge waits is beyond me. Probably because the theater doesn't hold that many, and the movie is long.

No, hotel guests do not get in early. I don't think they have ever been able to do so, but years ago it seems I remember getting in early with my annual pass one day. with FOTL one really does not need early entry. on times when I stay off-site and arive at opening time, I can always ride without much a wait anyways. get there early (most people come in around 10am), go twords the back of the park, ride the big ones and work your way to the front. be heading out as everybody is coming in. nah, Universal does not need early entry IMO.

I gotta say that I didn't care much for the shrek attraction. we waited like an hour and a half and I was not impressed. it was an ok little 3D film but the seats (benches) galloping along like we were on horses made no sence. I always bypass shrek because I don't think its worth more than a 10 minute wait. that and Jimmy N. I honestly don't know which one is dumber. maybe its just me, but I liked hitchcock and the Hanna B. ride lots better. Hitchcock was such a great director that he deserved a tribute and it saddens me to see it gone. If they ever change the tribute to Lucy for a tribute to Britney Spears, I will flat out quit going to US period!

I am w/you, Metallicat. I also was not too impressed with Shrek. I was really disappointed b/c there was so much hype about how good it was, and the pre-show was the best part to me. We waited for nearly an hour and have no intentions of ever doing so again. It just wasn't worth the wait. The only way I would wait again is if I was an on-site guest with express passage.
I also agree with you about if they ever turn the Lucy tribute into a Britney Spears tribute. Wouldn't be a smart move on US's part. They could lose a lot of loyal fans that way!

But as far as ever being able to get in early, we went in 2000 and they let us in an hour early for purchasing the 2 day/2 park tickets. But IoA was still very new then and they were trying to get people to go to both parks. They don't do that anymore... unfortunately. I wish they did. It was really great that year. We didn't have to wait to ride any of the major attractions and we weren't on-site guests either.
