Hi

We want to do LON/MCO in June 2015 (2 adults / 1 child). When is the best time of the year to book the flights? We would be going out on a Thurs or Fri and coming back on a Fri or Sat. We could do either economy or premium economy.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry but its something no-one can know. I start searching 11 months out and search 4, 5, 6+ times a day, every day, every month until I find a price I am happy with. I might find them the first day I look, might be 6 months of searching. Book as soon as you are happy with the price.

Wayneg - thanks for the reply. We have only done one trip before and that was with miles so I have no idea about what constitutes a reasonable price at that time of year - what sort of price would seem reasonable for BA/Virgin in June?

I saw some flights this morning for the half term weekend 28May-4Jun with Virgin direct £2450 for 4...with miles and money £2150 which for school hols I thought was pretty good.
So a couple of weeks later I would think you could do a little better than that
Been some mega Thomas cook / Thomson flights this year but only at short notice.

Keep an eye on Norweigian - only released to 6 Jun currently but they have some good deals if Gatwick is an option for you.

Thanks Mark - unfortunately the reviews re: reliability of Norweigan have put me right off. We can't risk being told that there is not a flight for 3 days.

Also depends on when the airline lets you select a seat and if you are after certain seats. Later you leave it, more chance they'll be gone.

It also depends on direct vs indirect. Indirect can keep getting better and better price wise the closer it gets to departure except for the final month. I posted the other day some flights for August this year on Lufthansa indirect for £468 per person.

If you're going direct I would advise getting it booked sooner rather than later.

I've always personally found with direct flights that even last minute they are rarely cheaper than booking early. Unless you book with a holiday package and super last min (and I'm talking about 2 days before you leave which I have done before)

You really can't generalise, while you find best prices early I tend to find best prices around 5-6 months out for VA August flights. I have booked Xmas day, Jan & Feb.
Airlines maximise profit, if they are selling well the prices will rise, not selling so well they drop price or cut capacity.
I have also found better prices last few times paying in $'s on Orbitz.com

I know, but like you say its too variable to do any thing other than offer general advise. :)

I'm just offering up advise based on my past experiences. In the many trips I've booked I've found that booking early is cheaper. Just to re-iterate, that has been my experience and might not be what everyone finds.

I think with a popular destination like MCO the flights don't tend to fluctuate too much.

But in saying that if you're going to be booking the flights between November and February booking after Christmas is nearly always cheaper. I agree with that 100%

I booked a package so far in advance that I was able to cancel, lose the deposit (actually managed to get it back as a voucher to book another holiday) and still save £600. Turns out Virgin Holidays and VA had their May sales and premium plummeted in price by nearly £1000

Last year we flew in June and I booked in September the year prior. We paid £585 each with BA from Glasgow via LGW.

This year we moved here and I booked a week out with United and paid £420 per person for flights on June 1st. I booked returns (one ways were three times the price, and just canceled the return portion when we got here). Usually weekdays are cheaper than weekend departures, but check it first because this is not always the case. We could have got the flights for the same price the Friday before instead of the Monday when we flew out, but the embassy hadn't returned our passports with our visas yet. There are guidelines and pointers to keep in mind, but no hard and fast rules. you have to keep an eye on the prices regularly and check all options. If you are going in the first half of June before the Scottish schools close, you can probably afford to wait it out if you want to hold on for a sale. Last year we noticed that the prices spiked from around the 20th or so and stayed in the £700+ range for the remainder of the summer. The good old advice would still apply: set a budget, get a price in mind and when you see one you are happy with, book it and stop looking :)

Check out BA today for a price guide, sale ends today. I booked a week or so ago for Edinburgh v Gatwick to MCO for £450 £50 cheaper than this year travelling at roughly the same time in May again booked during the BA sale but nearer the time. I then phoned Disney and get them to add the flight to my booking as that way I'm only paying a £100 deposit per person so not too much money to lose if plans change before next May.

The only great price I ever got was booking in February for a May trip. It was last minute (by my normal standards) and I got PE seats VA Manchester to Orlando for around £800 each as I recall. I would pay that for the same flight in August without flinching really and have had to pay considerably more, in fact double, this August for PE. So the only time I didn't plan and flight watch I did well!!!!
