Best time to book car rental

When is the best time to book a car? Mousesavers have discount codes but not for January yet. We will be traveling Jan 11-18 2012. Rates seem really high. I normally go in January but have never paid over $250 for the week for Dollar for a mid size car.

We are going 2 weeks from this Friday and I haven
't booked yet. Seems like the closer the day gets, the cheaper the rates. Just sign up for all the emails. I just got a coupon for double upgrade, but it is only good for 3 days of our trip, so I am hoping another will come out eventually.

I'm just afraid since MLK weekend is in the middle of my trip that rates will go higher.......

About 2 weeks from your travel date is a good time to book. Rental company will release the "last minute" car rates around that time.

I would sign up for the Alamo Insider program. Its free to join and you get 20% off and they have been offering $45 off coupons lately. Just priced a mid size for a week in Sept and got it for $86 total using the insider program.
