We decided to add a few days to our trip on the way down to Orlando/Kissimmee, and scheduled two nights in St. Augustine at the Beach in the Castillo Real. I would love to have ideas of things to do there, or things you wouldn't have missed if you visited there! Any ideas would be great. Also, thinking of adding another night (we'll have 2-1/2 to 3 days), and would like advice as to whether we'll need it or will we be fine with a couple of days? Anyone stay at the Castillo Real?

Thanks!

Sandy

Be sure to go to the Old Fort. Check out the oldest drug store (real store), walk around the village. Go to the oldest prison... and check out the near by beach. There is also an alligator farm.. small place but fun.
I have heard, not sure since I have never done it, but I heard there was a haunted light house in St Augistine.

My sister lives about 25 minutes from St Augistine & I have a house (was my Mom's) near there as well. :goodvibes When I stay at the house, I love to go shopping at the outlets up there too ;)

Being a fan of SYFY's Ghost Hunters who did a show at the St.Augustine Lighthouse I had to go tour the lighthouse when I visited.I remember asking the lady who takes your tickets before you go into the lighthouse about the ghosts and at first she just seemed to nod like yeah there's something here, but once she started talking about it I couldn't get her to stop telling me things she's heard or seen.I didn't have that much time when I went we basically toured the lighthouse, walked St.George Street which is a pedestrian only street with stores and restaurants and just drove around also seeing the Oldest house. They also have trolleys which basically take you around all the attractions and you can get on or off at any of the stops.

Thanks for the ideas! Sounds like there is plenty to keep us busy. Maybe one evening for the haunted lighthouse, one day for the beach, one day for the town? We drive down at least twice per year, so if we miss anything, we could always have a return visit. The shopping sounds great, too, but probably won't have time on this trip! I'm still tempted to add another day, sounds like there is plenty to do!

My kids loved the Alligator Farm and we all loved Fort Matanzas. Not much to do there but very beautiful and we saw dolphins.

There's also the Ripley's museum,Castillo de San Marcos, the Old Jail, touring Flagler College, the Lightner Museum, ghost tours at night, the Fountain of Youth and many others.I gotta get out there again and spend more time than I did last time.

They have Pub Crawls and Haunted Pub Crawls, too. We live about 30 minutes away and it's a great place to soak up a little history.

We definitely will be trying to get in as much as we can, but from all of these wonderful ideas, I know we'll want to come back on our next trip down and schedule a couple more days! Beach, History, Pubs, Shopping, Ghost Stories and Tours--my kind of place!
