Best Thing to eat at Blue Bayou

Do they charge the split plate fee if an adult & child split a meal? Probably if both get a side but can you request no extra sides? DD & I split the kids prime rib in April and we weren't charged a split plate fee.

I have never split with a kid so I don't if they would charge but I think they are supposed to. Split plate fee is (I think) up to $5 now and you do not get extra sides. :(

My favorites are
Monte Cristo (even though it is a heart attack on a plate)
The Pork Chops (and I do not like pork chops)
Prime Rib
Tesoro Island Chicken
Short Ribs
LOVE the gumbo and the salad, we usually get 1 of each and split it. :) And the potatoes....OMG, they are soooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!
And for dessert, nothing else is worth trying but the cookie boat. :)
We have a PS for Monday the 5th, first thing in the morning so we can get a waterside table!! At least I hope we can. :) I'm planning on getting the MC, thinking that maybe we will just share it but we will see what happens.....

The did not charge us a split plate fee when we shared with our kids or when the kids shared a plate. They did charge it when 2 adults shared. You are right about the sides--the kids did not have to pay the split plate fee but did not get any extra sides (fine with us).

I love their prime rib it is probably one of the best pieces of prime rib that I have actually ever had at a restaurant just melts in your mouth.

DMIL and DH had the ribs two different times on our trip last week. They just loved them! I had the Monte Cristo which was just as good as usual. Took half home thought because that AND a cup of gumbo is TOO MUCH. My second trip, I ordered the crab cakes and the adult Prime rib to split with DD. She loves steak and only eats that and not the potatos and grapes that they serve with the kids meal. So she had the steak I had the wedge salad (yum) patatoes, spinach and crab cakes. Perfect!

I think next time we will do something like that. If you try to have an appatizer, entree and dessert, along with the salad or soup it's just too much. having an appatiser, half a dinner and desert would be just right! Hubby would get most of the prime rib, and like you, I'd get the other things!

can you share an entree?? I am just thinking if the meal is big and we have to take some along with us that we really wont be able to since we will be going back to rides after dinner..
On our trip dh & I shared the short ribs. They were fantastic. We paid $5 to split and each of us got a choice of gumbo or wedge salad along with our own sides.:thumbsup2

We are planning on going here for our anniversary in June so this is very helpful. Sounds like either the short ribs or prime rib is the best. When is it offered? Just at dinner or lunch and dinner?

Last time I ate there was years ago and I had a spinach stuffed chicken.

Didn't Blue Bayou take the prime rib off of their menu?
They still have the Buccaneer's Beef Short Rib though..

Yes, they have taken prime rib off the menu :sad1: They have filet mignon instead. The offer it by itself or with lobster. I went with my sister last week and we splurged--we each ordered the filet mignon and lobster dinner. Whew, what a mistake! Oh, the dinner was great, but we couldn't eat most of it because we filled up on salad (me), gumbo (sister), bread, and mint juleps first. The potatoes were delicious, the veggies very good, and the steak was great, but I was just too full for that much food. The lobster was good but certainly not the best I've ever had. We really wished we'd shared a dinner. We also had a couple of Cosmos at the Hearthside Lounge in GCH first.

WOW I am not to happy they took the prime rib off the menu that’s really bums me out we are going next week and I was so looking forward to having that :confused3 I wonder why they did ? anyone Know?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the wedge salad and the gumbo, so whenever I go I'm so torn on which to choose!

For sure, I LOVE the cookie boat ! MMM so good.

But I'd say stay away from the Mahi because the tastes all together were definitely not good!

:lmao: well you see..... I loved the Mahi Mahi!! maybe yours was just not a good batch? did you say anything? I bet they would have brought you something else if you did not like it, because truly there was nothing to not like about it when I had it. I see on that new menu, it says "five pepper roast new york" now I know new york is a steak.... so they roast it? sounds like something they have replaced the prime rib with :confused3
I had almost forgotten that hubby had their "surf and turf" which is the lobster and filet. He said it was very good, but I'm not a fan of lobster anyway, I much prefer their jumbo shrimp...yum yum!! which you can get either as an appatizer or together with the mahi mahi.

I thought the fish was fine, but the spinach with it was not good. It was sooooo vinegar-y. ICK !

I just hate that, you look forward to something so much, it costs you so much, then it's not as good as you thought it would be.... I feel angry at both the waste of my money, and the disapointment of a not up to par meal.

I know, its okay though because I LOOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE the wedge salad ! Next time, I'll definitely try the short ribs because my cousin TheAXIOM was gobbling that plate down when we sat together at the meal !

My boyfriend and I split the crab cakes appetizer and surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster tail) and I absolutely LOVED IT!! The chicken gumbo was also delicious and we had excellent service there. I haven't been in 10 years or so and I was pleasantly surprised.

I actually thought the food was pretty great for the price, at least for steak and lobster that is. Especially with our premium pass discount (I think the total was $60 with tip).

I did see that the menu is now different. I don't like that they took the Prime Rib away either, I loved that. Oh well, next time I want the steak I'll have to do the New York, that sounds good!!!!!!
