I was getting good results with baby oil and now I'm reading it's bad for you. Eucerin? Aveeno? what's good?

ok, why is baby oil bad? My skin is so dry lately it hurts!

I've tried everything.

Coconut oil is wonderful, or I use vaseline.

It is expensive but i would highly recommend the products by the Body Shop. There are body butters made for very dry skin and they really help me.

My dermatologist recommends Cetaphil applied immediately after bathing while skin is still damp. It makes my skin baby soft.

I love coconut oil and don't have to worry about chemicals in it :)

I like Olay In Shower lotion. You apply it just before getting out of the shower - do a light rinse. The first time you use it, your skin may feel a little heavy/lotioned. After that you will never notice it. Works great for me in the drying Michigan winters.

My husband was on a windsurfing trip with they guys and he called to find out what it was called as one of the guys was complaining about dry skin. The salt water was making it even worse. They made a trip to the drugstore on their vacation just to get some. ;)

for general dry skin: udder cream www.uddercream.com

for my hands when my fingers split and bleed: vaseline covered by cotton gloves overnight.

for my dry heels and feet: vaseline covered with socks

Brown Sugar Body Scrub
Try this luxurious homemade spa treatment using a delicious aromatic blend of Brown Sugar, moisturizing oils and fresh fragrances.
1/2 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup ground oatmeal
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup almond oil
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Small containers with lids
Combine all ingredients using a spatula in a large bowl until well blended. Mix should have a paste like texture. If it is too dry add more oil a few drops at a time. Conversely, if it is too oily add more dry ingredients until you reach the desired consistency. Keep stored in tightly sealed jars. May need to mix before use if ingredients settle.
Application:
Gently apply to wet skin in a circular motion concentrating on dry patches and rough areas of your skin. Avoid using the scrub on sensitive areas, in cuts or on skin that is irritated or sunburned. Sugar scrubs are also not recommended for the face. Thoroughly rinse with warm water.
Caution: the oil in the sugar scrub can cause the tub to become slippery.
Tips:
A little goes a long way with the sugar body scrub. Use small mason jars or washed out baby food jars as containers.

I read in a magazine that a supermodel (forget who) uses a scrub in the shower, then slathers on baby oil and honey. You then lightly rinse off before you get out of the shower. I have very dry skin, and this is great. and forget expensive stuff - I use plain sugar, make it into a paste with water, and scrub.

Also, maybe you can shower every other day - my hair is so dry, it can go about 3 days before it needs washed for oiliness.

I haven't heard that baby oil is bad for you? I also use vaseline for my feet. Aren't they both petroleum products? Wouldn't vaseline for be bad? Or is this something to "help" us to decide to buy more expensive products? I"m a little cynical today ;)

My skin is super dry. I have tried everything and the only thing that works for my is Am-Lactin. I use it head to toe as soon as I get out of the shower. Otherwise my skin is itchy and flaky.

I have been using Neutrogena hand cream on my hands, and it seems to work well. But you need to use it regularly.
I just tried olive oil on my dry and cracked legs, and I have to say it felt very good! I could feel it seeping into my skin!

A second for Udder Cream here! My husbands skin gets so dry and his hands crack and sometimes bleed. We have tried so many different lotions and finally tried udder cream and it has been the best. The real big bottle that has a pump for some reason the consistency in it seems different and doesn't work as well so we buy the smaller containers of it. Ever since he started using this a year or two he doesn't crack and bleed like he used to. Now when it starts drying out he just knows its time to apply more which in his case is every few days or so.

Best way to beat dry skin - move to Orlando and get a job at Disney. With Florida humidity you will never have dry skin.

Hey, may not be the best solution but at least you could visit Disney every day.

CeraVe works great on the face. They have an AM formula that has sunscreen, and a PM that does not. My dermatologist recommended it and I get it at Target.

My dermatologist recommends Cetaphil applied immediately after bathing while skin is still damp. It makes my skin baby soft.

This is what my dermatologist recommended as well. I use it everyday after I shower and my skin is never dry and flaky anymore. Make sure it's the cream in the tub not the lotion with a pump. It makes a big difference.

When I lived in Missouri, I used Vaseline (not the lotion) on my wet skin and blotted dry. It was the only thing that kept me from cracking.

I live on the Gulf Coast, now. Only need a light lotion in the winter, it's so nice! However, the summers almost kill me!

Along with whatever emollient you find that works, have a humidifier going in your house. That will also help.

I love Ponds Dry Skin Creme
It's not a bit greasy and soaks right in on arms, legs and face

I love Shea butter. not lotion with shea butter but 100% hard shea butter. it's great.

What's wrong with Baby oil? I use it right after I get out of the shower. 55 years not a problem?
