Best sunscreen & deoderant for hot Florida summer!

Also, Walmart had no-ad sport and regular, spf30, uva/uvb STICKS last week 2/$5. I always buy one of these for each of us for summer. DD,10, burns like crazy on the nose and under her eyes (me too!). We like the sticks for around the eyes and mouth, and I thought this was a great price.
BTW, does anyone know what the difference between "regular" and "sport" is? The ingredients are slightly different, but how do they "work" differently?

The sport does not sweat off like the regular does. It also stays on in the water too.

Forgot to mention that we also use a Coppertone Babies STICK sunscreen for our faces. It's so much easier to put on your kids faces, and w/out all the mess!

I also vote for Neutrogena Oil Free (SPF 45). My DD and I have really sensitive skin and neither of us has had a reaction to this one. We've used it at WDW, Hawaii and Mexico and no one has gotten burned.

The only deodorant that works for me is the Mitchum also. As far as sun block for the kids I use the 45 waterbabies. As for myself I can't stand the stickiness so I use the oil of olay 15 spf. We've never gotten burnt. I just think that you have to reapply. I believe that that is the trick.

I see a dermatologist every six months since I had skin cancer two years ago. She said that whatever you buy, make sure it has one of these three ingredients: avobenzone, titanium dioxide or Parsol 1789. Then reapply often and make sure your first application is on at least 20-30 minutes before you goo out in the sun. I am amazed at the parents who slather their kids up at poolside and then let the kids jump right in! Just throwing money down the drain - literally - and not protecting that skin!

i will toss in my two cents here...for sunscreen, I use Neutragena on my face ( i have extremely sensitive skin) in a stick. My hubby and I use No- AD for our bodies. The stick is great even to travel to parks in...its really small and won't drip over everything...you can put it in your pocket if you want.
As for deoderant...I say use what normally works for you, but here is my hint...while not the biggest bargain out there. put a small travel sized one in your bag, fanny pack, pocket. etc and jsut reapply throughout the day. I usually do it when i use the restroom. Not only does it prevent odor and sweat, but it refreshes a little too. Plus, when it is gone, you can just toss it! I usually pack it in my carry on bags, this way if my luggage is lost or we are stuck for a delay, I can alwaysfreshen up a little!

I like Dove. It smells nice, lasts long, and doesn't like a sticky "white streak" mess under your arms if you're wearing a sleeveless shirt.

I also use Thermasomething hairspray. Haha..can't remember what it's called...Thermacare or Thermaheat. Doesn't get sticky in the humidity here.

We only use the Coppertone Oil Free too. Its a bit pricier than the regular but well worth it.

We use Arrid XX (NOW Arrid Total). It's a gel and is the only thing now used for the four of us. Only thing that keeps that nearly teen nice smelling too!!!

Also refreshing is to use an alcohol-based no-soap hand cleanser (e.g. Purell) under your arms--it kills bacteria/odor and is nice and cool on a hot day.

Our kids are all fair-skinned, blondes and this stuff works great for us down here in the Caribbean. It comes in a spray or a tube, the tube works out a little better price per ounce. We all slather it on before leaving the house and then again later after being out for a while. Aside from anything else, I can't stand chasing the kids when we get to the beach to put on sunblock and then it's all gritty because they are sandy!

On top of this I usually swipe their noses with a sunblock stick for added protection. I was using Coppertone for Kids stick but it very quickly became a gloppy mess in the tube. Neutrogena's sunblock stick seems to work fine and keep its shape better in a hot beach bag.

The great thing about the Coppertone is that it doesn't run into stinging eyes like even Clinique does. I was hoping Neutrogena face lotions would work for me, but I broke out. Now I use Coppertone and am ok, which is why i'm such a big fan!

Coppertone Waterproof Sport Sunblock Spray is by far the best. The spray is much easier to apply than the lotion. You don't have to worry about blending in the white spots of lotion that you can't reach. It is very easy to reapply, especially at the beach. The sport kind is waterproof and will not sting your eyes. I burn within 10 minutes of being in the sun and have used a lot of different types of sunblock. Coppertone spray works better for me than any other.

Also, they say that sunblock lasts longer than previously reported. It used to be that you should toss them after 6 months. Now they last about two years. My advice is to call the customer service number on the bottle/tube and give them the production code. They can tell you how long it will last.

My dd saw the dermatologist recently so I asked about sunscreen in general. She said she only recommends products that have zinc oxide or titanium oxide (though they may be listed as chemical names on packages) which are physical blockers. She said that papa is also good but since it is a chemical blocker it is much more apt to cause a skin reaction. She recommends spf 45 applied liberally starting at least 20 minutes before venturing outside then again once outside and every so often thereafter. The reason for reapplying so soon is that people tend to use much less then what is really recommended. Also don't forget about applying sunscreen to the visible spots on the scalp such as part lines.

I live in Texas and the humidity if killer...I swear by Soft & dri, I have tried everything, Secret, Ban, ...

Someone suggested Certain Dry and so I just ordered some for my DH who sweats profusely. I'm hoping this will help him.

I perspired more when I was pregnant and others recommended Degree; it worked quite well. We like the Coppertone Oil Free sunscreen and have also used the Neutrogena. For faces, I have found a "Baby Blanket" brand stick at Walmart that works GREAT -- it has some Zinc Oxide in it and when I put it on my kids, it's whitish so I can tell I haven't missed any spots. For my little girl, who burns quite easily, re-applying hourly is the only thing that works. I have also had great luck with the "wave suit" bathing suits which have short sleeves. These protect wonderfully at the pool and they are available from Children's Wear Digest (CWD.com), LLBean Kids or LandsEnd Kids. It is wonderful not to worry about burned shoulders! :)

I have sunscreen left over from last year (I usually buy Banana Boat at Big Lots). I called the customer service number and they told me all of my sunscreen was still good. They also told me their sunscreen was good for up to 6 years. I have 2 red headed kids that are on the fair side and one that has brown hair. The one with brown hair doesn't wear sunscreen (he gets a little red the first time out but then after that he tans). When my 11 year old red head was younger he was very fair. Now, I have found that as the summer goes along, I can start putting lower spf on him and he actually gets a tan (start off with a 30 then go to 15). I always use the stick for the face. I haven't tried this with my daughter yet who is 5. She has red hair also, but she is not quite as fair as my son was at the age.

Dermatologists recommend sun screen for all skin types in order to prevent skin cancer later in life, not just for people with light skin. Although light-skinned people are certainly more at risk than dark-skinned people, the fact that skin tans does not mean the person is not at risk for skin cancer (just an fyi from a former pediatric nurse--the pediatricians I worked with recommended sunscreen for kids with all skin colors, including dark-skinned African Americans).
