Can anyone recommend an inexpensive umbrella type stroller that will fit a bigger preschooler? Need a taller back and a 40-50 lb weight limit.

Thanks!

Last time we went to Disney, I researched this. There could be more since then (that was 2 years ago), but I couldn't really find what I would consider inexpensive. I ended up buying one that was $100 (usually $150, but found a great sale). I figured a)it was cheaper than renting from Disney for the time we were there, b) we had a smaller child (that wasn't going to disney) that would use it and c) it was worth it! It is so hard to find an "umbrella" type stroller that is tall enough that you don't have to lean over to push it and that my 4 year old at the time could be comphy enough in to sleep.

We bought this one... (remember I got it on sale!)

But I have heard this one is great as well..

You could also rent from Orlando stroller rental, I found them cheaper than renting from Disney!

I have found my son's feet drag when he is sleeping.
if he is awake, he can keep his feet up.

you will be unhappy with a cheap umbrella stroller.
at 45 lbs - it is hard to push my 6 year old in our expensive umbrella stroller.

I would suggest looking into renting a jog stroller (if you are looking for Disney).
We used one last year and I was very happy with how easy it was to push.

I'm looking at the Britax Blink or the First Years Ignite for DS4.

We rented from Orlando Stroller Rental (the City Mini Twin) for the past several trips, with the last being when my girls were 7 and 5. They were a *little* squishy, but were comfortable and did well. I wish I had found that stroller to purchase when they were like 2 years old and six months old, respectively. It was awesome, but by the time I did encounter it, they were just too old to invest in it!

I recently purchased a Baby Jogger City Classic. It goes up to 75 pounds, but is certainly not cheap. However, I did buy a used one on Craigslist for $200, and it included a totally new, still in the box, replacement seat and canopy. So basically the entire stroller was new, except for the frame. Great deal and we will still get a few years out of it. DS is 5 now, but needs it for the vacations we take each year, not just to WDW.

I just got a Baby Jogger Summit and dd loves it! I can push/steer one handed. It goes up to 75lbs. My dd is special needs and can't walk for long periods of time but we are hoping she won't need a wheelchair and this was a good compromise.

Last year we took a Maclearan and it was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. On the first day I went from cement to pavement and the frame bent. Thankfully, I had taken another stroller or we would have been forced to rent one or go buy another. I know a lot of parents here love them, but I'm not a fan. When we got back and I tried to warrenty it, the customer service was terrible. They wanted me to pay to ship it to NY and have it fixed and me pay to have it shipped home. I'd had the stroller for less than a month!

Sorry for the tangent :)

edited to add that my 5 yr old weighs 45lbs. and is just shy of 4 ft and is very comfy in the Baby Jogger

I've seen the someone on here recommended the First Years Jet before, the price is right at under $40 and a 50lb. limit.

Our local BJ's has the Ignite for $50. I'm going to take DS4 there next week and have him sit in it to see how he fits. He's 41 in. and 31 lbs.

You guys just made me realize i need to shake out the old umbrella strollers and see if the kids even fit it anymore. That would suck to get down there and realize they were unusable. Another reason why this site is awesome!

Someone here recommended the Zooper Twist.

We ordered it online from Costco as it had a discount and if we didn't like it we could return it to the store.

Well the boys love it. MY DS3 is over 40 inches and DS21 months is around 35 inches and both fit in it well. It is a bit heavier then your typical umbrella stroller but it is very sturdy and has full recline and a 19" back which is great for our kids that have long torsos as even our 21 mo old had outgrown the umbrella stroller we had which was a bit better then the $15 models. It has a great sunshade and easy to push.

I had been doing a lot of stroller research because both boys are to tall to use the strollers we have now and needed something that they wouldn't grow out of within a few months. It does have a 55 pound weight limit.

It was a bit more then we were originally going to spend but it is worth every penny and hubby and I even fight over who gets to push it.

Good luck on your stroller search. :goodvibes

We have used the baby planet lemur frog stroller mentioned below with our son, its a great stroller. We got an extra cup holder for it, and I love that you can fold it up WITH your drinks still in it and they don't spill.

I just got a City Elite, but haven't sold the baby planet yet as I want to make sure the Elite really is as good as the frog! The Elite doesn't have the leg room that the Baby Planet one has. He is 7-yo (we use a stroller because he has autism), and he is around 45 pounds. I can see how tall he is if that helps, but he can put the sunshade down.

My only advice is to buy early and test out before. I looked all around for an extra stroller for DS (4) very tall.. Nothing worked. I did find some light weight umbrella type but honestly pushing wasn't always easy..

I know many people don't like the park strollers but it worked for my DS. He still loved his sisters comfy travel system when he could find time to hop in for the the trip renting the park ones worked. I think with the multiday single it was $12 and change. I don't think thats bad.

Good luck. I did see the ones people rent - City and such. They looked great but we stood next to one and I know DS would never have fit.

Maclaren Volo.
Someone mentioned they had a problem with a Mac- I know tons of people who have them and never had a problem. My Volo has done about 7 WDW trips and is still holding strong!

Umbrella type, only weighs 8 pounds and has a carrying strap. It sits very deep so bigger kids fit in it- if they fall asleep the don't slump forward. My DD weighs 55 pounds and we took it to Disney 4x last year. It also steers very easy with a preschooler in it. I also lent it to friends for WDW and they loved it.

Babies R Us has it if you want to test drive it.

Mac Volo *ours has been DD's Disney stroller for several years now* or Britax Blink ~ my sister and her family *2 DSs ~ 4 & 2* are visiting DLR this week :cool1: I sent my Britax Blink & Mac Volo with them. I bought the Blink earlier this year *hey DH and I plan to have a kid or 2 over the next few years ;)

I also recommend the Maclaren Volo. Used ours for our first trip in 2009. Easy to carry and fit my (lazybones:) ) 6 year old.
have mine listed on craigslist right now...only have had one email-not sure what I am doing wrong.

I have the First Years Ignite that I purchased for our trip last October. My daughter was two at the time. LOVE LOVE LOVE that stroller. She is my third child and this is my FAVORITE stroller. Highly recommend it. I know she is only two, and therefore smaller than 45 pounds, but I loaned my stroller to a friend who has a four year old and he did GREAT in the stroller too. Had plenty of room and she said it was very comfortable to push. I ended up buying it because I knew we needed something small and lightweight for Disney, but it had to fit in our budget because poor DH was just NOT going to be cool with buying ANOTHER stroller. :rotfl: The poor man has put up with my stroller swapping for three children now. If I had just found this one with the first kid though I would never have kept looking.

Thank you for posting this. I've been looking at the Ignite for DS4. I'm going to get one today and see how he fits in it. I have 3 kids also, and my 4 yr old is the youngest. I can't even begin to count the number of strollers we've had over the years. But, hey, what's one more? :rotfl:

When we went to DLR last October we brought our Phil and Ted's Sport and it worked great for our 6 year old and 2 year old (ages at the time). It was really nice to have the option for both of them to ride if necessary and my 6 year old fell asleep in it 2 nights running while the 2 year old shut down the park! 6 yo weighs 46lbs.

I'm still debating what to bring on our August trip to WDW. DS will be turning 7 and DD will be 3.5. She REALLY needs to ride and I think DS will want to sometimes as well, so dh wants to haul the P&T. The issue is that we are also going on a cruise at the end of our trip and the P&T is overkill for that. My other options are a Mountain Buggy Urban Double (would be great for the parks, but can't take it on the ship), a Mac Volo, or I could buy something else. I know a lot of people bring 2 single strollers, but I really think DS will be walking most of the time and we won't want to have a stroller with him when we split up.
