Best strategy for Flight of Passage w/o a FP?

So I'm traveling with a friend who is not the chronic planner that I am (think 180 day spreadsheet) and by the time she got her tickets there were no more FPs available for Flight of Passage. I really want to see this attraction; she's never been to DAK so has no idea what she's missing (or not).

I got FPs for Everest and the safari, which is great, but I need a strategy to see FoP without a 2 hour line. We'll be at DAK on Sunday, October 22, which is listed as a 6/10 crowd day on the touring plans calendar. We don't arrive until after noon, but we could stay until close.

Thoughts? Do they ever open up new FPs closer to (or on) the date? Other ideas? THANKS!!

You should keep checking for FPs. We picked up some a few weeks before our trip last month. If you are not able to get a FP, I would probably get on line right before closing. The waits are usually less than what's posted.

The other thing is, of course, just to keep checking on the app during your AK days. One day I was actually in line (about a 50 min wait, read in line, wasn't bad) for FOP and picked up a FP for it for two hours later.

And as said, waits are ~usually~ not as long as posted. I rode standby twice, both times it said either 115 or 135 min, and both times I waited 45-50 min.

We did both FOP and NRJ by 9:30 Tues am without using a FP for either one. It was a 9am opening with comfortable temps - got to the entrance about 8am and slowly walked with the crowd to Pandora. They must have opened the ride early as we were done with FOP at 9:01 and decided we’d check out the wait for NRJ. Was much less then posted 20min wait! Then went to Everest and walked on!

Another site recommends being at the gates super early (like 90 min) before park opening if you want to do it without a long wait but I did read that he had a similar experience Tuesday morning too. I'm sure you know the site (cough.....josh.....cough).

Over the summer, we went at rope drop. I'm not sure that was a good idea. While the wait wasn't quite as long as was posted, it was long. When we got off, the wait was long, but not as long.

Our FP covered the river ride, EE, and the safari, so we had the rest of the park's biggie's covered.

Still, I'm thinking we would've been better off doing something else that first hour.

You should wait until the end of the day if you don't have an FP. Here's a Touring Plans example from a few weeks ago:

At 9:30 am, the posted wait was 210 minutes with an actual wait of 240.

At 9:30 pm, the posted wait was 60 minutes with an actual wait of 30.

Keep in mind that the posted wait times are intentionally exaggerated late at night to discourage potential riders.

Even though I tried for a FP at the very second I could, I still didn't get it. It's ok though because I really wanted to do this at the very end of the day because I'm worried about getting sick due to motion sickness issues. So my plan is to leave ROL and go straight over to FOP to get in line right before closing. I'm expecting a wait of under an hour even if it's listed as more; hopefully, it will be more like 30 minutes. I can deal with that. In fact, I'd rather wait then than having to wake up super early and get there two hours before opening for RD.
