Is it possible to see the fireworks in hub area or around main street without seeing the parade? I am going this weekend and I am just planning in case fireworks get cancelled our first night. I don't want to wait for parade spots again. Is there a way to see the fireworks without watching the parade? I know it will be a busy weekend.

We do this from Main Street so not sure about other areas. As soon as the parade goes through, the CMs will be taking down the rope that cordons off the seating areas on the curb. As they do that, everyone will flood onto the street and there will be plenty of room to move on in with them as they are standing now instead of sitting. We just head to Main Street when the parade is near and hang out in the shops until it passes, then just walk outside and fill in. This is mostly for Disneyland Forever because I like to be in the middle of all the extra goodies on the roofs of the Main Street buildings, if you want a different view, it may take a little more planning. We are usually in the block between Carnation Cafe and Jolly Holiday. The hub is usually pretty full, but if you stay in the camera shop area, you might be able to squeeze into there.

Something to keep in mind, we were there 2 weeks ago and they were doing construction on the Starbucks on main street. Because of this, none of the projections were working on that "block" of main street. They were working on the buildings closer to the hub.
But what the previous poster suggested is pretty much what we do. We either hang out in the main street buildings or stand inside the ropes for the parade viewing, but the view is terrible because we get there late with no intention of really watching the parade, but you have to stand in the viewing area or the cast members will tell you to keep moving.
I expect it will be totally crazy because it's the last weekend, but at least you are aware of that. :)

I second ImDMous' advice for getting a spot on Main Street without watching the parade. For the Hub, depending on where you want to be, one option is to hang out in Tomorrowland and wait until the parade is about 2/3rds done (after the last crossing has happened). Then head to the parade crossing waiting area (at the entrance to TL) and follow the crowds out into the street after the parade finishes.
