How would you space out stopping for gas/food and rest stops between NJ and FLA??

Trying to figure out how often/how long and where are the best places/exits to stop for gas and food!

Trying to make a schedule on the way down ASAP! :listen:

All help would be amazing!!! Thank you!!! :worship:

Here use this link.. You put in your starting/ending address. The details about your car and it will figure out when you need to stop for gas. If you do this the day you leave it will look for the cheapest gas station along your route bases on that days prices and tell you where to stop and how much the gas is. Its really a cool tool

It depends on whether there is kiddos involved or not. I plan to stop every 1.5-2 hours on our trips (NC to FL, we also took a trip NC to NY over the holidays) but I have 4 young children so we needed time to stretch out legs. When I traveled without children Id drive for 3-4 hours before stopping since it was just me and hubby. Adults can last longer than kids :)

My husband's favorite spot to stop is South of the Boarder (I believe its in Georgia, not 100% sure). No clue why but its a fun little stop to stretch your legs and get a bite to eat.

No kiddies! Just 13 year olds! SOB is a must! I will def stop there. We may drive 5 hours then stop unless we really need to haha

Royal Farms has the best fried chicken ever, and their gas prices are pretty good also

We used iexit lite app last year. The free one. It to told us what was off each exit and so many exits after it.

There is also the i95 app but I don't have that one.

:lmao: My husband is driving through the night so he doesn't have to stop as much (once the kiddos are out they are OUT, a hurricane can't wake them). He hates stopping.

Good luck on the drive! The one from NC to NY drove me batty, can't imagine a longer one..says the woman whose moving across country at the end of the year with 5 kiddos :rolleyes1

Is that the one with the Starbucks and Subway? We always stop there and it's in Emporia. I have it saved in my phone so I don't forget where it is.

We also try and stop at truck stop type places, Flying J and I forget the name of the other big ones. They are usually clean, busy all the time, safe, with lots of choices for food and things.

Caution about Emporia: Major Speed Traps! Plus, you cannot mail in your payment if caught - so you have to back to Emporia for court.(I'm in Hampton Roads, VA)

My favorite: Kenley NC - Truck Stop Road, exit 106 or 107 (the lighthouse)

I can't comment on restaurants as we just get hoagies from walmart ($6 for 18" very good). We use Diesel but the same should apply to gas.

Here are our fuel stops. We like flying J (Pilot) so get their frequent travelers card. It gets you a couple cents discount but more importantly you get the cash price when using a credit card and that accounts for 5 or 6 cent discount on top of the cards couple cents discount.

- Carmel Church, VA - flying J (Pilot)
- Latta, SC - flying J (Pilot)
- Exit 3 in Ga right at the ramp two stations on the right have the best prices pick the cheapest, they swap back and forth from trip to trip (flash something and racetrack something....)
- Walmart in Kiss (must use a walmart gift card then you get the cash price, get a gift card when in the store...)

The buffet at the Thunderbird Inn (Florence, SC) is very good but they opens fairly late in the morning so may not be useful. If you like Golden Corral they are all over the place as you drive down 95.

Lastly be very careful. 95 has become a very dangerous road. Our last trip (week before Christmas) we have never see so many *serious* accidents. So take your time and watch for speed traps. They were every where!!!

Have a great trip.

rockdad - did you not find the Thunderbird more on the scary side than charming? LOL. They did have a good breakfast buffet though but I don't think we would return!

We often spend the night in Latta, SC now - there's a decent Best Western Executive Inn. And Florence has a great Comfort Suites. In case anyone wants to stop overnight anywhere.

Not really but we are florida rednecks so we were comfortable there. But i understand what you are saying. :) There are tons of golden corrals along the way. Not the best food but a good selection and saves the most cash to be used at Disney.

So glad I found this thread! We are doing the exact same drive the end of March. Driving with a 7 year log and an 8 month old. We are stopping in Florence, sc to break the trip up. I don't think I could ever drive straight through lol

No doesnt have those. But i do like their coffee better than a starbucks :rolleyes1

Ok, then let me see where mine is, so I will add an option. BRB

My note says it's Exit 33, I-95, VA. It doesn't say Emporia but I think it is. Starbucks, Subway and a large gas station/market. Clean bathrooms.

Thanks so much for the help!!!

I heard about I-95 being pretty dangerous now - right lane and follow the speed limit! :thumbsup2

We will def. take our time. No rush :)

Will stop at the gas stations you recommended on the way if needed!!! :)
