On our next trip we will be at WDW for about eleven days (8 on site, 3 off), and I know that during that time we are going to want a little down time (without having to run back to the WL every time).
Now, I have read about a few favorite spots that people have mentioned that they love to stop and catch their breath, places like:
TTA, the Rocking Chairs near Tom Sawyer´s Island, a back alley on Main St., etc... These are the kind of places I'm looking for. So, if you would, please list some of your favorite down time places at the different parks.
Thank You.

I always find the small tables outside of the French bakery in Epcot to be nice (especially with a cafe au lait and pastry ;) ) as well as the garden area in the back of the English pavilion. Have a great trip!

The rocking chairs @ Exposition Hall, the checkers boards in Frontierland (near the County Bears), Universe of Energy in Epcot (great place to nap),
the benches across from the Castle (front), the various benches around World Showcase.

The movie in France, the American Adventure in USA, the Hall of Presidents in the Magic Kingdom ...

Zzzzzzzzz

You don't say what time of year you're going. A few places indoors (and thus airconditioned) in the MK are upstairs in either CHH or PVH resturaunt. Lots of people don't even know there's an upstairs at PVH, so last time I was the only one up there, shoes off, feet up on a chair, sipping my iced tea. There's also an outdoor deck upstairs at PVH. In AK, the Trail in front of the ToL has a bench on it, very peaceful. And across from Flights of Wonder there are tables in a covered area that used to lead down to a river dock. In Epcot, in China, there are benches next to the movie. That's an indoor area, but it's open, so it isn't too cool. Oh, back to AK, there's a couple benches in the Oasis, lots of folliage around, so you're not in the sun. If you take the right hand path like you're going out of the park, the benches are on the left, by a waterfall.

Go on a riverboat ride at MK and sit on the stairs in the back, in the shade.

I have a special place at AK. We usually dine at Flametree Barbecue for lunch and take a seat way back in behind the restaurant. It is really cool in the shade and quite peaceful. Lets if I have another spot..... Hmm.....
On Main Street Usa across from Casey's Corner there is a smoking area (my husband is a smoker). This spot is out of the way and you can see the entrance to Tomorrowland up on the hill- pretty cool. Also one of my favorite spots is on the side of Splash Mountain near the entrance to Thunder Mountain Railroad, we like to sit on the rocks next to it. I like hearing all of the screams coming off of the big drop at Splash Mountain.

Its always nice to relax a the less chaotic places in the magic kingdom. There's no many, but on Mianstreet theres a few tables outside the bakeey, in tommorowland theres many tables/benches.

The outdoor tables out behind the Yakitori House at the Japan pavilion. Also love the koi fish pond over there makes for a great, relaxing atmosphere.

If you're in the MK, try the train. Last time we killed 40 minutes just riding around while my youngest got a nap.

If you're at EPCOT or MGM take the boat to the Boardwalk. Get a sandwich, salad and or fruit bowl from the Boardwalk Bakery and sit on the Boardwalk and enjoy the atmosphere. We tried the Boardwalk Bakery for lunch last week and it was delicious. My new restuarant "hidden treasure". Then split a candy from the candy shop. Definitely big enough to split!!! A very nice break away from the parks.

Zzzzz Universe of energy ... We always have more energy after this ride :)
(no flames, love the attraction, but where else can you sit in the dark and quiet for 45 minutes!)

Grab a croissant at Fountain view (epcot), and sit and watch the fountain & music, Love this!!!

Sorry, should have mentioned that. We will actually be there for the first week of December (2007). So I don't think the sun / shade issue will be quite as important (but then again, you never know in Floride).

Wow, I am loving all these great ideas. I added a page to my Disney Planning notebook for resting places, and you all are giving me some really great ideas. Please, if there are any more keep them coming. BTW, I've noticed that there haven't been too many MGM spots mentioned, any ideas?

Unfortunately, the back alleys of Main Street are gone. They were filling in the one on the right (facing Cindy's) when we were there in October.

My favorite places are: The TTA, Carosel of Progress, the tables across from the Sunshine Terrace, the bridge over the creek in Canada, the Train Yard in Germany, Anywhere around the Hat at MGM, the pavilion on the Water at AK, and the little open yard next to Bongos.

Someone on another thread mentioned a quiet little spot behind Tusker House in AK...I am plannig to look for it myself on our December trip, but they said that it actually looks its one of those CM Only areas, but it's not...there are tables and chairs and shade!
