Best spots for viewing parades

Just wondering what is everbody's favorite spot for watching the parades. Also we are going in early Oct. How long before should we find a spot?

I know it can get crowded there but nothing beats sitting on Main St USA watching the parade! Early October should be a great non-crowded time to be there!
