Best spot to shoot Wishes...I am not happy with what I have done so far.

We have taken wishes pics from the front of Cryatal Palace, from the hub and near the Pavilion Restaurant and some near the smoking section going to Tommorowland...

I want to get a clear view of the Castle and not have the fireworks off to the side too much...Any advice?

Also, can you post a pic from the spot you are talking about?

Next time I go I'll have to remember to take a picture of the trashcan I like to use for Wishes.

It is the one on the left side of Main St as you walk towards the Castle. Its just past Casey's Corner and right near the Info board.

I've gotten that spot twice:

You have to make sure you get there early. If Spectro is at 9 and Wishes at 10 then you'll need to get to this spot around 8ish. Grab a hot dog at Casey's and sit next to the trashcan. Relax a bit and do some people watching. You'll get a good view of Spectro, then some people will move on and you'll have your spot for Wishes.

handicap, What time of year do you go? I was there just last week and the crowds were horrendous. I was on the right side, just in front of the ice cream parlour (well, between the ice cream parlour the popcorn stand at the hub) and, because I'm short, had a hard time getting a clear view of the castle without the masses of people in front of me.... and keeping the tripod from being knocked over.

We sat and waited for 8 pm Spectromagic around 6:30 and then just waited there for the fireworks at 9. Unfortunately most of the population surrounded us before we even had a chance to stand up from the parade. I thought we were going to be trampled.

Is it this trash can? (I think it is in the right location just past Casey's.)

Last time we were there for Wishes we got a spot on the left hand side of the circle on the south end (closest to Main Street) - about 7 o'clock on a clock face, yielding the following angle:

Zoomed in a bit, but you can at least get an idea of the view.

The 2 times thus far I've gotten that spot have been early June 2006 and a MVMCP night the week after Thanksgiving.

I knew I saw a pic recently, though I think the one I used was the next one up from this one closer to the Info board.

I'm curious...do you set up on the trashcan, or do you use a tripod in that general area? I tried using a tripod there and I thought I was OK until a 6'5" man stood up right in front of me about 2 minutes before Wishes started. :headache: I was not able to get the nice wide angle that you got because of that! Maybe I should have cranked the tripod up as high as it would go, but I don't think that would have helped any. Maybe next time!

I used my travel tripod and set it up on top of the trashcan. For me that ended up being a good height. First year I had no problems with someone in front of me. 2nd year about 20 minutes before Wishes a family all wearing those big Dr Seuss type hats decided to stand about 10 feet in front of me. Luckily right as Wishes was starting they moved just a bit and I also tilted the camera up more and was able to not have them in the majority of my pics.

You can see one of them in this shot on the bottom left:
For this image I had the lens at 22mm. I then zoomed in to about 26mm and got the 2nd shot that I posted earlier.

I did have another guy with a video camera stand in front of me, but he was shorter than my camera was high and he actually asked first if he could stand there as he didn't want to be in my way. :thumbsup2

LOL - I actually found a picture of my original "view":rotfl2:

I think I moved the camera to portrait orientation and finally got some that were OK...would love that wide angle view, though.

I'll have to try your technique...hopefully nobody will actually WANT to throw out any trash!
