my ilaws are treating their only grand child (my DD) to her first disney trip. It’s a repeat of their first trip with their son (my DH) when he was 6 too. They have been since and so have DH and I (family and honeymoon). He still had stickers, Mickey pen and backscratcher (go figure on that one) when he went.

What’s the best souvenir to get without breaking the bank? I bought an princess outfit and little toys to surprise up to the trip. What do you suggest for her to keep and look back as her trip to WDW?

I always wanted a stuffed animal at that age, I came away with "Fuzzball" from Captain EO. lol

What does she like? Is she a sucker for fuzzy stuffed toys like my DGD is (there are jillions from characters to every animal found at AK)? Does she love princesses (dolls)? How about building toys like LEGOs? Could you give her a budget and let her pick something out?

Pins and pressed pennies with a pressed penny book were a hit at my house. Pick. A pearl was also great, 3 generations of us did it (myself, DM, and DD) and we made matching Cinderella carriage necklaces.

Silhouettes are very reasonable at MK. There's a stand on the right side of Main St and I believe somewhere in Liberty Square.

My 5.5 year old girl really liked picking out a lanyard and pin set at the Emporium that came with 4 or 5 pins of the princesses. It’s also much cheaper than buying a bunch of individual pins.

Mickey ears with her name stitched onto them? My DD from her first visit got a purse that was a soft Mickey head (it came with a cord that she wore around her neck almost like a necklace) she wore that everywhere!
Does she have pierced ears? They have really pretty tiny Mickey ears earrings that are made of birthstones, or just clear ones that look like diamonds.
Or just her favorite character plush - she will probably have that forever!

I surprised my 5 year old niece with pick a pearl - gave her a Cinderella carriage cage/necklace the night before we went to Epcot. She loved it - actually, we all enjoyed watching the experience.

As a child, one of my favorite souvenirs was the custom painted parasol's - they now have a small "doll" size and a regular size and I don't remember them being pricey. She could choose what she wanted painted on it (various princesses, flowers, etc) and watch the artist at work.

I love these ideas! I am going to look into them all, she is a girly girl and loves princesses. Jewelry, parasols and dolls for sure. Thanks so much!

For my kids, it was embroidered ears. Had to have them for their first trip.

I live the silhouette idea; wish I'd done them when my kids were small :(

I'm with the PP's who suggest getting embroidered mouse ears. I would take her to Le Chapeau on Main St. in MK and let her pick out the ears she would like and have them embroidered with her name (while you are waiting for your ears, make sure to listen in on the old phone that is attached to the wall in the shop!). I still have mine from my first visit in 1980 and still wear them in the parks on occasion!

My oldest got sick during our first trip and missed out FP for meeting Elsa and Anna. We bought her a Frozen music box / jewelry box at the ride. We have also bought the girls a kids link charm bracelet. They have a lot of different princess charms (and others to choose from). They weren’t that expensive and held up pretty well.

We had the silhouettes done in the France pavilion in Epcot and it was a great souvenir.

When my husband and I first went together, we got etched mugs with our names from the Arribas bros. shop on main street. When we took our boys on their first visit at age 6, we had them pick out their own mugs. They'll be 18 next month and we all still have them. Mine collects change to be used on more Disney trips. :)

regards

I suggest no souvenirs. We didn't do souvenirs with our girls, and it was never a big thing. So much time saved, nothing to tote around, nothing that ends up in the yard sale pile a few months later. I didn't genuinely realize just what a good choice this was until the girls were older and started taking trips with school groups, church groups, etc. At that point I realized that -- for so many other kids -- the trip is about the gift shop at the end. I saw so many kids zoom through a museum or an aquarium so they'd have time to linger in the gift shop. I have absolutely no regrets about our "no souvenirs" policy.

My kids' favorite are the lanyards and trading pins. Relatively inexpensive, and small/convenient to bring home. They loved trading pins in the parks and around the resort too.

We did the autograph thing when Gwen was 5 and then took photos of each meeting and then her godmother (the scrapbooking queen) put everything together in a memory book.

Exactly what I was about type! And, we really aren't souvenir/t-shirt buying people, but there is something about the Disney pins that are different. Each trip they buy one special pin to remember their favorite ride or experience from that trip, so it kind of becomes a memory keepsake type thing for us. We love to look at all of the pins and remember the different stories behind them.
