I am getting ready to put my first scrapbook together and was wondering what the best adhesive is(tape, glue, whatever)?? I would like something that is easy to use and has some forgiveness to it in case I don't place it where I want the first time. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sharon

I am of no help as I am just learning about this too. Hope you get some ideas here.

Hermafix! I like the roller, not the tabs. It puts little dots of glue (tiny tiny dots) on whatever you're sticking, and it's not permanent until about 24 hours later, so you've got that forgiveness you're looking for. They sell it at Michael's, AC Moore, etc...but the refills can also be found in Office Max and Office Depot and are generally quite a bit cheaper there. HTH!

Does this hermafix adhesive lie very flat against your materials? I mean, do the edges of the adhesive make an impression through the surface of what you're mounting?

Oh no, it's very flat...doesn't show through at all! I'm actually going to try using it with vellum soon, as I think it would work on that too without showing through. You should try it, you won't regret it! Maybe get it at a real scrapbook store the first time if you have one nearby and ask them to show you how to get started if you're at all concerned...It won't cause any bumps or anything though.

Well, I have several and I use them for specific things...

#1 3L photo fixes (similar to CM and Hermafix photo squares) for photos and mats
#2 Glue Dots for metals and fibers
#3 Hermafix dots for um... other stuff... LOL!! Like bigger letters cut using a template, stuff like that... torn paper... borders, etc.
#4 Xyron "X" for things like smaller letters cut using templates and MM eyelet letters (with the eyelet hole cut off)

ETA: I wouldn't use the hermafix for vellum... well, at least not the kind I use. They're blue dots and show through.

I'm with ToDisney that the right adhesive depends on what you are adhering.

For me it is :

Hermie Tabs for photos & large photo mats

Glue dots for heavier stuff like metal

Pop dots if I want a flat embelishment to pop off the page

Hermie glue dots for die cuts and letters and other stuff that I may want to move to get in the right spot

Xyron or Vellum spray for vellum

Xyron X for small stuff

Zig glue pen for really small stuff.

FYI - Hermie dots show through vellum (unless mounted on blue cardstock) Tabs show through vellum unless mounted on white cardstock.

HTH

I love my 2 way glue pen from Ek success for velum

Hermafix definitely has the forgiveness you were asking about- you can move things about for I think 12 hours after you first adhere it. I liked it a lot.

Then I became a Creative Memories Consultant and started using their tape runners and became hooked. They hold stronger in my opinion...but they are not movable (easily) once you put it on, so it's probably not what you're looking for. I might go buy another Hermafix to have as a back up or alternative now that I'm not a CMC anymore and feel that it's okay to buy "contraband." (I hate that term)

When I started out the little peel off photo squares were just about the only act in town. You could probably do just about 70% of your scrapping with them, but they don't give you the wiggle room you want and often need. They come in both individual and dispender form.

Hermafix has both a permanent and a repositional type. The repositional is my all time favorite and I think the most versatile. One word thought. Hermafix has sold to EK Success and you will find it under the name of Dotto.

Adheasives can be rather confusing in the beginning. As you move through your album you will see that one adheasive is not for all. Through the years I have collected an entire box of adhesives. Each one has it's own specific purpose.

If I were to recommend just one adhesive for a beginner I would recommend the peel offs. They are economical at only $3 for about 4 or 500 of them. You already have a fairly large start up cost. It's good to know what is available but You can add the other adhesives as you need them.

Whatever you choose have fun

I just started to use Vellum tape made by Scotch. It was been wonderful. You cannot see the tape through the vellum! It does say on the package disappears on most vellums, but I have not had a problem with it so far. I was told at my LSS to follow the directions carefully, but I must admit I haven't really done that.
