Can anyone put DH's mind at rest and tell him what is the best way to go from Sandford down to kissimmee. It's our first time there and he's worried that he'll get lost and end up in the everglades or somewhere!!! :)

The Florida GreenWay (US 417) provides the simplest route to most areas of Kissimmee from Sandford Airport. It is a toll road though.

Whereabouts in Kissimee are you going ?

From Sanford I've always found the easiest way is I4, come out of the airport turn right onto Lake Mary Boulevard, ignore any signs for I4 turning off and keep going straight until you actually hit I4 at Junction 98. Head west towards tampa and exit at 65 or 64 depending on where in kissimee. I4 is usually busy but moving, tends to snarl up after the kissimee junctions.

The other route is to use the 417 greeneway but as stated this is a toll road and sanford to kissimee will cost around $6.50. Last thing you need is fumbling around for money at toll booths after an 8.5 hr flight. However, all the holiday and hire care operator tell you to go this way.

I should perhaps have qualified my answer a little.

I wouldn't recommend getting off a plane and straight onto an interstate unless you are experienced at driving in the USA. By contrast the Greenway is usually very quiet. Also many flights arrive mid afternoon and you will quite likely be getting onto the interstate just as rush hour is beginning. As I4 through downtown Orlando can be a nightmare at that time of day I would avoid this on weekdays. Finally I4 will bring you into Kissimmee quite near to Disney World. If you're staying to the west of I4 that's fine but if you're staying to the east you may find yourself diverted because the intersection with US192 (the main highway through Kissimmee) is closed in that direction.

Without knowing where you're staying it is difficult to be any more specific.

The 417 is the easiest route, very little traffic and although it is a Toll it costs next to nothing, well worth it!
