Looking for the best route to get us from Sanford airport to the Universal resorts, please.

I think when we've arrived in Sanford previously, we've used the Greeeway to get down to WDW and found it a really good road. Is this still our best route for the USF area too and, if so, where should we leave this road to get across to USF? Or which route would you recommend?

i think if you go straight past the turn of to get on the greenway from sansford the road take you straight to I4 you should know the way from there

As paulh says, just keep driving straight on once you turn right from the airport. After about 5 or 6 miles, you will see the signs directing you to I-4 West. You join it at junction 98 and the Universal turn offs start I reckon from about 75 onwards.

Some people avoid going the I-4 route as there is more traffic and depending on time of day you could face quite a bit - I like it cause it's simple!!

Alternatively, if you don't fancy I4 all the way, take the Greeneway (417) as normal and then take the Bee-Line Expressway (528).

This will bring you out at the bottom end of I-Drive between the Conference Centre and Seaworld. You can then choose a short run back up I4 (E) to Universal or simply take I-Drive back up to Universal.

Only bit you have to watch is to make sure you're in the right-hand land on the 417 just as it splits as this directs you onto the 528.

I prefer this route to the I4 route.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I must admit to being inclined to avoid the I4 for as much as possible. Our flight arrives on a Friday aftrenoon and I imagine the I4 traffic could be bad. I had wondered about taking the Beeline, but wasn't sure because it looks as though it would take us a little out of our way. Maybe I'll leave the final decision to DH as he'll be driving ;)

The I-4 is the most direct route, although you won't be going too far out of your way by following the 417 Cental Florida Greeneway/528 Beeline Expressway. The I-4 can get a bit congested if you're passing the Downtown exits during rush hour.

If you opt for the 417/528, by far the quickest way to Universal is via Universal Boulevard. Once you exit the 528 onto I-Drive, stay in the right-hand lane. You will pass the new part of the Convention Center on your right and shortly after, immediately before Pointe Orlando, take a right fork onto Universal Boulevard. This will take you directly to US, totally avoiding the congestion on I-Drive. If you miss the turn (although it is signposted), you can also cut through to Universal Boulevard via The Mercado complex.
