My mom is traveling with us. I would like to let her keep the kids one night, and go to a nice dinner with the hubby.
What do you suggest?

artist point at WL
jiko at AKL
yachtman steakhouse, yacht club
flying fish. on the boardwalk
hollywood brown derby
citricos at the GF
narcoossee's also at the GF

Jiko's the one you want.

Gotta try the flatbreads.

& Alberts is the prime location. After that I prefer Artist Point for atmosphere and California Grill or Jiko for food and/or atmosphere.

Victoria and Alberts is the high end option, dress code is strictly enforced and kids are not allowed, which is a good thing. After that my next recommendation would be Jiko followed by Citricos then Narcossees or California Grill. Unfortunately what California Grill offers in view suffers from average food (used to be VERY good, but IMO has gone down more then the other restaraunts).

Victoria & Albert's is by far my first choice. If I had to choose a second place it would be Jiko.

1) Most of the restaurants mentioned are NOT romantic.
2) In fact, any eatery that accepts DDP is not romantic.
. . . usually loud kids, sometimes even running around tables
. . . adults that do not know how to act during fine dining
. . . noisy atmosphere
3) Take an eatery not on DDP, but also not in DTD.
4) In order of price and atmosphere,
. . . Victoria & Albert's (no kids 10 and under, no kid's menu)
. . . Bistro de Paris (no kid's menu)
. . . Shula's
. . . Il Mulino

We went in May for DH's birthday and left the kids with grandma! Artist Point had very nice atmosphere and excellent food. It was not busy that night and there were no kids around, our table was very quiet. We did have a server who was a bit overbearing but overall a very nice meal. Jiko two nights later was busy and we had to wait 30 min past our ADR to be seated. A family with two kids under age 3 sat across the aisle from us. Service was great, food was Excellent (with a capital E!). The kids were not too unruly but a little distracting. So to sum it up, the atmosphere will likely depend on the luck of the draw with your seating, unless you follow the Scupper's advice:)

None of the restaurants available on Disney's Dining Plan are romantic, as they are too noisy, service is unpredictable and the tables are too close together.

I'd definitely pick V&A first, it's a wonderful experience. For second, I'd either pick Bistro de Paris at Epcot or one of the restaurans at the Swan and Dolphin. None are on Dining Plan, food is superior and atmosphere will definitely be more adult.

BlueZoo

For all the reasons mentioned - Not being on DDP, not many if any children, superior food & service, romantic atmosphere.....
