Looking for some good places to eat...preferably seafood. We are also planning on taking a day trip to Savannah and would love an recommendations for there also. This October will be our first trip to HHI. Looking forward to some relaxin' with DH :goodvibes and hoping for no hurricanes in the vicinity.

Well, I just returned from my first visit to HHI. Had a lovely time. Great place to go for relaxation. Do the kayak tour as well as rent a bike and do the beach. Fun fun. Harbour Town is over rated....but the outlet mall is fantastic.

Here is a few places we ate and what we thought....

Roastfish and Cornbread. One of the original owners of Sea Shack opened this place. VERY casual but great low country eats. Great fried fish, delish okra, great blackened fish...get there early because they run out of stuff. CHEAP...and worth more.

CQ's. Don't waste your money. I felt it was overpriced and not great. Of our 4 diners, the only one completely satified was the porterhouse...wow. It was excellent. But we spent a fortune here and the service nor the food warranted it.

Sunrise Cafe at Palmetto Bay fore breakfast. Yum Yum. GREAT food....for breakfast anyway. We had crab cakes benedict as well as the other benedict that has avocado and tomato...both great. As were the bisquits and gravy, eggs, bacon....great breakfast food. Nice outdoor seating if it isn't too hot.

Ruan Thai. Very near Disney. I loved it. We went for lunch. Great thai...great prices. You can request your food at varying stages of heat...I like hot and it was!!

Skip the food at the beach house...NOT good. And very expensive. There are lots of grills at the resort...cook out...it was fun for us to do there. Word to the wise...don't go to the Piggly Wiggly...very expensive and bad selection. There has to be a better grocery store on the island.

Now as far as Savannah, we went for the evening and ate at Crystal Beer Parlour. VERY casual, bar food...have the jalapeno lime wings if you go...mmmm. WONDERFUL beer selection. They have a website...and their fried seafood is yummy. Good salads, good prices. Take a trolley tour of Savannah...they are awesome and run well into the evening. Also, Tara Haunted Tours...fun fun fun. She has a regular haunted tour as well as a pub haunted tour...worth it for fun and history.

There are a ton of great options in HH. Depending on how upscale you want to go I'd list Redfish, Alexander's, Old Oyster Factory, Boathouse II, Aligator Grill and The Sunset Grill. There are many others as well.

The front desk at HHI recommended Capt. Woody's. Excellent choice!

Thanks for the recommendations. Not looking for fine dining but don't want bar food either...looking for something middle of the road. Are most places casual dress?

I agree with Old Oyster factory, very good and nice to be able to look across the march and see the DVC resort.

We found everywhere to be VERY casual dress...even CQ's that says they are SMART CASUAL...had everything from dressed up to shorts and tshirts.

If you are going to be in Savannah for lunch, try Mrs. Wilkes...search for the website for details. I hear it is awesome.

CQ's is a little more upscale but not as much as say Old Fort Pub. Most places are fairly to very casual.

We were at HHI in May and had great dinners at family run resturants very close to the resort...Mezzaluna runs what they call Sunset dinners...I thnk from 5 to maybe 6:30. You get a glass of wine, salad, entree and dessert for around $15.

Also Catch-22 great seafood. Husband is the chef, wife runs the front of the house. In between fine dining and fast food.

Both were great.

In Savannah, we went to Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House..it's on all the maps. Large tables for 12 with communal seating. LONG LINES! They are only open for lunch and do not take reservations, but it's worth it for the food and atmosphere. All food is served family style...about 25 bowls of it. Everything from fried chicken, beef stew, BBQ pulled pork, sausages to collard greens, black eyed peas, mac n chees, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread stuffing, creamed cucumbers and on and on. Dessert is included and it's cash only $16 per person.
